Are all of these definitions correct? I had to find the def. for the book "THE GIVER"...(details)? |
We're starting the book THE GIVER in english, double accelerated english, is it a difficult book? What's it about? The definitions are correct. I remember reading this book however i didn't really get to finish it. From what I've read, i can say it's about a boy name Jonas who lives in a community with very strict rules and different ways of living. For example, when a baby is born it is assigned to a family to take care of, and every age is in groups. Ex. There are groups of "fives" which are 5 year olds, etc... Once the kids turn 12 they will be assigned to a permanent job by the people in his community. Jonas is chosen to become a Receiver of Memories. Those are the main details i remember reading. I wasn't too into it when i first started reading it but it got better. Hope i helped! i think that they are correct but that book was so boring and i really didnt understand some of the things that they were saying... Yes, they are right. The Giver is a good book, although I haven't read it in a while. English is my first language, so I can't really judge the difficulty of it for you, but I found it easy to read, and entertaining. I don't remember for sure but it's this place where when kids are 12, their jobs are picked for them. And there's one guy (the Giver) that keeps all the memories. And a bunch of weird things happen ithis town/place. The main character, this boy, is chosen to be the new giver. I didnt read all the defenitions but they look correct , the ones I read, umm I read the Giver and its about this boy named Jonas and he lives in an urbanized world and he is assigned a job and his job is to be the giver and he sees into the past cause this old man(the old giver) shows him how to see the past, the past has pain, happiness, love and other feelings that Jonas doesnt feel and Jonas eventually goes into the other world to find feelings with a little boy named Gabe, ohh and i Hate THE ENDING. And by the way when people get injected with the needle thingy they DIE ! i think the definitions are correct, check merriam-webster.com...the giver is a book that is easy to read, but has tons of those silly symbolizms (i think)....it is about this guy who lives in a world with no color, in a very controlled environment, no one has any feelings either, ne way, on their 13 bday or something, they get assigned a job, and so this guy gets the job of the next giver, who is the most important person in the city , and who has the memories of what life is really like (ex snow, colors, joy, etc)...ne more and id give it away, but it has a terrrible ending (too abrupt for my taste)...so ya... Yes, they are correct. You can always rely on Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary to get accurate and current meanings. |
