If there was no homosexual element to the transmission of AIDS would there be a quarantine to stop the spread?

I mean that you quarantine the people that have it so they cant continue to spread the disease.

No, of course not.

Quarantine is usually used for highly infectious diseases that are easily transmitted.

Aids is not an easily transmitted disease - you can't catch it by being sneezed on or touched by an infected party. Body fluid exchange is necessary.

Added later. Try reading the responses properly. AIDS is not an airborn contageous disease. You can't catch it just by being in the vacinity of an infected person. Quarantine is not appropriate for this type of illness. Don't you get it? Or is this question just a thinly veiled attack on gays? You don't really seem to want any answer but 'yes'.

I believe you can have AIDS for 7 years without it showing up in a test.

I dont know how you would quarantine it if some people dont know they have it. Also there are no signs or symptoms for a while. It can be spread a lot during that time. m

what type of quarantine are you thinking? I don't think it possible to round up every AIDS carrier and place them in one area. nor could any government afford to keep them fed clothed and cared for for a lifetime. even if it were possible it isn't a guarantee the virus would stop being spread.

It's too late for a quarantine, but if you are referring to a "vaccine", I believe the homosexual spread of the virus may have caused a slight delay in research enthusiasm.

Interesting question. TB has an extended incubation period also, although not that long. And the CDC would think nothing of locking down an entire community to stop the spread. Of course, AIDS is not an airborne virus, but if it were, would we dehumanize the homosexual community to stop it by means like that? Doubt it! The ACLU would probably step in and call it a violation of civil and personal liberties.

You can only quarantine "infectious,airborne" - remember - HIV can live within the female - up to 15-years! The female is the highest carrier,as she shows no symptoms until it symptoms show... That might have been a possibility when the number infected was small, but now it wouldn't even matter because millions of people have it without knowing it.
