Neuralgia caused by root canal treatments?

Where can I find the best doctor to help w/ problem while it is still somewhat new? I had root canals that caused neuralgia & I believe that a good doctor could find the triggerpoint(s) & help me as it is fairly localized. Right now all they gave me was a "band aid" pain med. & said it "should" go away. I believe there are more options out there & have not been taking the pain med but have been in quite a bit of pain. Can anyone give me advice? I have searched on the internet, but haven't come up w/ people that are considered the "top notch". Thanks

Go to a neurologist...you need an anticonvulsant for nerve pain. I have trigeminal neuralgia. Trust me, nothing else even comes close to working.

Neurontin and Lamictal have the fewest side effects at least for me. Tegretol - it made me so spacey, I was getting lost getting home, could not remember names or what I was doing. There are others, try the one that works best for you with the least side effects.

Try a heating pad. That usually helps me a bit.

I agree, go to a neurologist or, if you are near a dental school, speak with someone in Oral Surgery or Oral Diagnosis. My mother was stricken with painful shingles of the mouth in January this year and is still only about 80% better. She has developed neuralgia from this but she is getting a little bit better each day. She has to take pain medication when it hits, but she sees a neurologist about every 2 weeks to be monitored.

Good luck!
