Why is anything related to this unethical?

I have posted a few times now about not having been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD but wanting to get my hands on some Adderall to aid in focusing... getting the most bang for my buck... in dental school. I am starting in August and this is an endpoint in my education from my standpoint now. I want to specialize. It's VERY competitive. I want to learn all I can to better serve my patients. I don't want to use this drug recreationally. If Adderall can help me to focus and concentrate, thereby helping me to learn the most information in a given amount of time, to eventually better help those that come to me for treatment why in the world would people consider this unethical? People on my past posts say it is, but never give a clear reason as to why. Can anyone explain this to me?

Using ANY drug for ANY reason other than it is supposed to be used for is unethical. I wouldn't want anyone working on me who HAD to use drugs to get through school. Besides, I thought Adderall only helped ADHD people to focus normally. It doesn't help "normal" people focus more.

adderall is tightly controlled. Usually you can not get refills on it without a dr. writing a fresh script. Its also addictive and heard of college students getting hooked on it. If a doctor will give it to you then ok. But if you have to get it illegally on the street then you have your answer.

talk to your doctor about this!

Maybe they see it as a form of cheating, the same way they would view a body building using steroids and basing the reason on the competition being very competitive. Also, dont you think, it might be seen as unethical that you would take it and nobody else on your course has, so therefore you are at an unfair advantage?

Prescribed drugs are to help people with health problems to manage a regular life style. That is why it is not considered o.k. to do. There are many ways to learn to focus better, to learn more, than to take any drugs. I understand what you are asking, but, I would have to say it is not only unethical, but, actually dangerous for anyone who does not need a drug to take that drug. Focusing is a learned thing. Learn to focus without drugs. I have gone to college so many different times, to earn degrees in different areas, without needing to take drugs. The very act of going to college, will 'teach' you to focus better, if that is your concern. (Working full time, taking up to 23 units at a time, graduating Mensa is not as easily done as it may sound. But, I did it.).

If you want to be placed on stimulant medication then go see your Dr. and get a prescription. If you just want to get adderall to stay up all night and study you might not need it . Stimulants are highly abused among college's because it is similar to cocaine. It is unethical to get into a medical profession and be abusing medication that you do not need in the first place. you can't be trusted to make the right decisions about yourself, so why should you go into a field that your patients have to put their complete trust in your knowledge and abilities? Take care of youself the right way and do not think about "getting the most bang for the buck"

It is unethical because anyone who gives you pills prescribed to them can go to jail for drug distribution. Your trying to be a dentist but they fear you getting hooked on the pills and putting someones life in danger. You need to start watching strong medicine on lifetime because they had a episode about this. I know people in dental school doing just fine and getting the right amount of studying in and they dont need a pill to help them. Take more time out in your life to study. For evey hour your in dental school you need to take time out and study two hours. Your not going to better serve your patients hooked on ridilin and adderall because once you stop using the medicine you will forget some of the important info youve learned

The fact that you are posting on a board to get agreements from others to make yourself ok with this should tell you that it is unethical. But let's define it. Ethics is the rationale toward the highest level of survival for the individual. If you knew it was ok, you'd do it. Would you ask for others agreements to pull someone from a burning car?
