Bush pressed to pardon border agents but will he ?

Two California congressmen, one of whom introduced legislation this year calling for a congressional pardon for two U.S. Border Patrol agents, say that if President Bush can commute the sentence of former White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, he can order pardons for the agents.

"If the president of the United States is going to commute the sentence of Scooter Libby, he should immediately accompany that with a pardon for Border Patrol agents Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos," said Rep. Duncan Hunter, California Republican and 2008 presidential candidate.

"If Scooter Libby is going to receive this treatment, and there very well could be a compelling reason for the president's actions, agents Compean and Ramos should then be provided a full pardon," said Mr. Hunter, whose bill has 100 co-sponsors. "Mr. President, pardon our Border Patrolmen."

Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, California Republican, said Libby was convicted of obstructing the investigation of a crime, "yet no one has been charged with a crime" in the case. However, Mr. Rohrabacher said, while Mr. Bush rightly showed mercy to Libby, he "does not seem to have the same mercy for the average men and women holding the front lines of our borders.

Isn't it weird that the US would even make such a thing even remotely like a crime. A fleeing drug guy that is killing our kids and we can鈥檛 shoot at him? What a world. I guess open borders are really that important to them.If not pardon,why not at least commute the rest of their sentences. It should be easy to do out of concern for their health and safety........Are there any other Presidential candidates speaking about this, aware of this, trying to correct this injustice? We have a Coast Guard, we need a Border Guard, a military entity, with new rules of engagement etc. The Border Agents should be released, yesterday, and Sutton should replace them in prison. What Sutton has done is insured that Border Agents will stand down now and we will all be less safe as a result. Agents are not permitted to pursue fleeing suspects? Anyone else here tired of watching our brave soldiers fight wars and our Border agents try to secure our borders with their hands tied behind their backs? Anyone else here feel like voting for Duncan Hunter?

I'm tired of the soldiers and the border guards getting a raw deal, they put their lives on the line for our country and are then arrested? Before we were so PC in WWII they were told to shoot anything that moved! That's what war is. Don't tie the hands of those you send out for defense. I have to trust the training that our men receive and that they are equipped with all things necessary to fulfill the position in which they find themselves. Do you think that Al-Queida says don't shoot to kill? Come on, a war is not a disagreement, it's a war. And the Border Agents that did their jobs should be commended not criticized. Give those guys a medal not a jail sentence. This PC crap achieves nothing! We are far too lenient in our approach to other countries, as well as our own, look at the number of illegals we have! It's ridiculous. I'd rather vote for Tom Tancredo!

I think you'd have to look at his track record for doing anything right. Based on that record I doubt it...unfortunately.
This issue has been a real catalyst here in the southwest.

They should not be in jail for doing the job the Government has not done. Also Dog the Bounty Hunter is facing the same for getting that rapist heir to the make up industry.

heres my incredibly un-p.c. answer thats bound to cause a stir.....i live on the border in texas, atleast 80% of the border patrol agents i see are 25-35 yr old "mexican-americans". i do not believe they are loyal americans. i believe they're working ppl like most of us are, alot {{not all or not even most but ALOT}} are no better than the ppl theyre paid to keep out. a swearing in ceremony doesnt make you an american, a paycheck from uncle sam doesnt make you loyal. i personally know a border patrol agent based in laredo, tx that has a brother in mexico that works for the zeta organization. conflict of interest at its highest huh. alot of the border patrol agents are engaged in pure racism, taking favors and $ from certain illegal immigrants and literally killing others for no reason. the border patrol needs to reexamine their policy of staffing the borders with mexican american's, its like gettin the rooster to guard the henhouse. i suggest you investigate the agents you referanced, you MAY find conflicts of interest that explain their actions. theres lots of bad guys on the border, some of them even wear badges

I took that online test to see which candidate better suits me, and Duncan Hunter was #1 on the list, with Tom Tancredo a close second. I've already donated to Tom Tancredo, but I'm not counting out Duncan Hunter.

I agree that these two border agents should be released, the fact that they are incarcerated is beyond cruel and unusual. They are exactly the kind of people who we need guarding our borders. And yes, I think Pres. Bush will pardon them before he leaves office.
