Border Patrol agents came to the aid of two injured illegal immigrants stuck in rough terrain Monday.
Around 8:30 a.m., agents trained in search-and-rescue techniques responded to a rugged canyon on Otay Mountain and found a woman with a broken ankle. She was given medical treatment, but due to gusty winds, it was several hours before the helicopter was able to extract her. She was flown to UCSD Medical Center for treatment and was later returned to Mexico along with her husband, the Border Patrol said. About 11:40 p.m. on New Year's Eve, agents responded to a report of an injured illegal immigrant in a rocky ravine near Pine Valley. Following a two-hour search in 40 mph winds, a Customs and Border Protection helicopter located the man south of the Pine Valley Bridge.
He was flown by the San Diego Fire-Rescue helicopter to Sharp Memorial Hospital and treated for a dislocated ankle. He was later returned to Mexico.

The Border Patrol said it conducted more than 100 such rescues in 2007.
Just think if this had happened to an American hiker. There would have been no free pass to Mexico after an expensive helicopter ride, they would have spent the next few years knee deep in hospital and rescue bills. I say let their own dam.n government send the helicopter.

I understand your outrage, and, I certainly would NOT be averse to sending the Mexican government the bill; but we can't do that. We're America. Sigh.

I'm delighted, though, to learn that once first aid had been rendered these people were returned to their own side of the border.

Well during the whole Hurricane Katrina fiasco, while our own government was twiddling their thumbs idiodicallly Mexico was the first to respond to help the victims of Katrina. So when will we be paying them back?

it's because of the border fence. what has been built was done strategically in areas heavily populated because it's to easy to run and disappear in the more populous housing areas. this has forced illegal immigrants to more treacherous, remote areas. do to the remoteness and terrain it makes crossing into the U.S. take longer and allows border patrol the needed time to find and detain illegal immigrants. hopefully these folks will take their story home and mexico news will report this so others will be discouraged from coming to the U.S.

If they come across the border in a legal manner, they would not have any injuries.
