Possible solutions for otisis media?

I'm 13 and have recurrent bilateral otisis media (fluid buildup in the ears) since I was a baby. I had many ear infections when I was little which has caused me to lose half my hearing. I didn't start getting treatment until I was 10. I got temporary tubes put in my ears but got them taken out to go swimming. When I was 12 I got them put in and just a month ago they fell out. I went to my ENT specialist and he said I still have otisis media, and I currently have an ear infection. He perscribed Allegra and a whole bunch of anti biotics which hasn't cleared up anything.

What are some other possible solutions to get rid of the otisis media? My specialist suggested getting my adenoids surgically removed or getting more permanent tubes. I also need two hearing aids to correct the hearing I lost from all the ear infections.

poeticjustice: some of the problems may be my allergies. Yes, I am allergic to pollon, dust, hair etc which is a complication with my terrible asthma. I will ask my specialist about doing an allergy test and if he thinks that my problem may come from allergies. I've heard of a Baha implant online, but never heard from my doctor. He just recommended hearing aids to help me with my problems and I'd probably only wear them in school anyway (I don't have to worry about at home because I live with my grandma only, and she has hearing problems so she tends to talk very loudly). The tubes I had in my ears didn't fall out for no reason, they were supposed to fall out between 6months-2yrs. And, I am not sure if I have a closed canal or not I will have to ask my doctor. Thanks for the help!!

I don't know. I've had the same problem since I was two years old. I've had ear tubes in and out three or four times, and they did not work-in fact, one of the ear tubes winded up missing lol like it disintegrated or fell out or something. I've had like eight or nine reconstructive ear surgeries, and I had to get two skingrafts for that-the surgeries were supposed to help keep my ear canals open-are yours closed up too?-but they kept closing up a couple months after each surgery. My hearing loss has always been at 40%, and we're trying to get another hearing test soon.

There might not be any readily available cure, especially if you've had the problem since you were a baby. I had to take a lot of antibiotics when I was little, and they didn't work either. The only thing that my doctor suggested for me was something called the Baha Implant, it does not help the ear problem, but it does allow you to hear better-it is kind of like the cochlear implant, but is for people who have like 30-70% hearing loss.

Getting permanent tubes might not work, if the other ones fell out. It's hard to say what to do, especially if nothing else has worked. I think it sounds like that part of the problem is your allergies. Are you allergic to dust, pollen, etc.? It might help if you got an allergy test done, then at least you'll know if the otitis media comes from allergies or not.
