Does the threat of disease scare you?

The world is seeing a rise in the number, types and cost of diseases that once seemed fairly easy to control. TB, polio, whooping cough, diphtheria, dysentery, AIDS, malaria, etc. are all seemingly on the rebound.

A case in point: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23356049/

Is the global economy pushing these diseases into mostly low-income people and countries to the extent that it will threaten every nation? Infected people still seem to move freely about with their governments doing nothing to hinder that movement.

Since it is so easy to move to another country even if you have diseases (just look at the millions of illegal aliens pouring into every industrial nation) should those nations place more emphasis on supplying free treatment or keeping those threats at bay?

Obviously every country has to take some responsibility for their own citizens鈥?health. The few countries that always seem to carry the burden are being overrun with the numbers and cost so what is the best answer?

In the middle ages the plague survivors where the ones who removed themselves from as much contact with others as possible. Would that be a sensible approach today or is it impossible?

Wow - funny answers. First off I am not that scared but I do see this threat as a major taxpayer funded cost that possibly should be better spent on AMERICAN CITIZENS!

Second - I don't like Paul and think he'd be worse then any of the other 3 very poor choices. I have no party since I feel they only want power, money and to pursue their own agendas.

Well, legal immigrants have to go through a health screening. No telling what all the illegals are bringing in here.

Yes, it does - which is why I moved away from an area heavily populated with third world invaders.

not really

No we are due for a pandemic sometime soon anyway.

move to Siberia...

most mexican illegals are to poor to have themselves checked, so it does not surprise me that the children have diseases. remember illegal mexican parents want america to handle that obligation.

Ya ain't gonna get around the disease issue with international traveling becoming so easy . Our taxes already pay for free clinics and such . Mabbe if illegals weren't afraid of getting deported for usin em they would more . Companies here that are in our food service industries should have regular health screenings for there employees citizen or not . At the companies expense of course . They gotta have some responsibilty in this to . What PLAGUE carriers you talkin bout ? Ain't heard of PLAGUE in years .

Just an interesting observation: Cuba is the only country that the aids cases are going down, not up. How?
El Presidenta had everyone in Cuba checked for aids, including himself, when he learned that it may be in the country. If someone had it they were sent to one of two towns to live out their lives, barbers earned the same amount, butchers the same, candle stick makers, whatever.
They could visit with kin but where not allowed any conjugal opportunities other than those available in those towns.

Only when I fly since that US citizen exposed everyone to TB. Does Brown scare you?
