Medical Conspiracy?

I have seen one of two to many movies and animes(Ghost in the Shell SAC season 1) thinking about how a FDA or a government organization can hold a cure back from the public in order to promote an only mildly effective treatment program that cost more and ultimately lines the pockets of political investors in corporations that support the treatments over the cure.
Do you think that it is possible that say, a cure for AIDS or something like that is being held at bay away from the public eyes because of the money being passed around? I mean do you think the FDA or a medical company would hold back a cure in order to bolster profits? And if so, who will rise against it and become a "laughing man" and use any means needed to make the truth known to the world?

There's a cure for anything if you've got the right money AND connections, but it's far more lucrative to treat something than cure something. Money makes the world go round... of course it's going on.

There was a guy I knew when I was a kid that had a full size van that got 100 miles per gallon. This was in the early 80's. He modified it in such a way and went to major car manufacturer to see if they were interested in his idea. They were and bought the patent he had and shelved it. After a while he started asking his contacts with the company why they weren't implementing his technology, long story short he ended up being found dead in a lake. Our government is in bed with oil companies and drug companies and will do anything to make them happy.

Of course it's possible. Laughing Men are everywhere, it's just we aren't Laughing Men until we actually find something and get credit.
