11 yr old girl dies from untreated diabetes because their parents prayed instead of seeking medical treatment?

http://fdlreporter.com/apps/pbcs.dll/art...

I came across this story when looking up diabetes. Do you think this falls under seperation of church and state? can the state force medical treatment? or is it like the christian scientists who don't take pain medication -- could the state/medical dr force an 11 year old girl to have anesthesia for a procedure against her parents wishes?

the parents weren't part of any organized religion -- should they be held criminally responsible for their child's death?

I'm Christian and I would never with hold treatment from my child. No where in the bible does it say I have to. God gave us the smarts to come up with medicine so why shouldn't we use it? I understand why Jehovah's Witnesses don't do transfusions as it is in the bible though I would do that for my child too. God is not gonna strike someone down for protecting their child in fact it is our job as parents to protect them, nurture them, raise them in the faith, and take care of them. I would like to see these parents in a wrongful death suit. Diabetes is usually only deadly when not treated and that is common knowledge.
I will pray for justice for this child.

Good answer. Report It

Of course they shouldn't... as it was gods will!

Yes, they should be charged with wrongful death.

Yes.

I think that the parents should be held criminally responsible and charged with child abuse and manslaughter or whatever it would be.

Negligent parenting, it should be the same as child abuse.

AND GOD didn't cure her???

I can't imagine why not???

oh Good lord, now morons will be using idiots as an excuse to call all Christians idiots.

they should be charged with killing their child,

there are some very sad people in this world.

yes its sick. i can't believe people do this to there kids.

Life is hard but its harder for the stupid. Don't blame our faith in God.

The state can take over and order medical treatment IF they are aware of the child and the condition. They can also charge the family with the child's death.

This is a tough subject.

And brings the abortion issue into light. If Christians are truly about saving aborted babies by state intervention, then they should also be for saving babies from religious assumption, using state intervention.

Saving babies is saving babies afterall.

The parents are criminally responsible. No two ways about it. At least in the states I've lived in claiming religious freedom hasn't stopped CPS from seizing the kids in these situations, although we have a very different federal judiciary since Bush..

yes they should be shot in the face for being so damn cruel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!its child abuse ..they should be flogged to death.

Hell Yes

The parents are bound to be xians. They must be loonies, like any run of the mill xian.

Thats why we all must be scientific

To me, the parents involved share a common word - stupidity!
God gave us a head to use for more than a hat rack.....He has given man the ability to become doctors - DUH. People that don't use doctors have a loose screw somewhere......
That's my opinion.

It depends. In a situation like that where a child is involved i think that the state should step in and do what needs to be done. Relegion is all well and good but a don't think anyone should suffer uneccassariy expecially a child.

Most of the time that results in a neglect or abuse charge. And very rightly. The girl was sick enough that a relative called the cops, they just were a bit late.

That's a hard one...but I would say they hold great responsibility over their child's death..

My opinion and belief is that God gave man intelligence..and one of the ways we can use this intelligence is to come up with drugs, cures, etc..for illnesses we're faced with.

They should have prayed to God for a good doctor for their child..a doctor who would do his/her best to help..

Parents should be put in prison, and for being religious stupid

The fact that they took her condition so lightly because of their faith and choose prayer over medical treatment is not only upsetting, but some of the f**king worst bad parenting I've seen.

They should be criminally responsible for their child death... Cheap parents won't pay for their child and knowing she has diabetes. They should be locked up. But the good thing was that they did pray for their child and thats some caring for their child but its wrong not to take care of their children. Atleast they should of just get a bank loan and pay off the debts later thats shows some respect to the health of the child.

Yeah, I think the parents should face charges -- if they wanted to pray, fine, pray that the medical treatment will work!

Hello,
I feel they should be liable for there childs death.
We do not live in 1708 but 2008.
I wonder if these are the same kinds of people who believe in not giving there child shots, or not bathing, or live in a tent and ride there bicycle around, eat food they only grow themselves on there own property? but serious,
These people use all other modern conveniences why not protect there child against death?

Should parents be charged if they don't have enough money to pay hospital bills, as well? To charge these parents, you would open the door for a wide range of other issues. The government would never want to tackle something like that. And if they did, they would be stupid.

Also, you have to consider alternative medicine, also. If I tell my kid to eat tree bark to cure his cancer, are you going to have me arrested because he died? I was trying to help!

That is a hard one . Maybe they should be. I'm a christian, I believe in the power of pray, and I trust God,but I also Use my seat belt, and go to the doctor.
Our pastor's father Is a devote christian and a medical doctor.
There is nothing in scripture that says you shouldn't use modern medicine.

God clearly meant for this innocent little girl to die, since she did. Medical science is the work of the devil.

Edit: I wonder if people hate my answer because they think I'm serious or because they know I'm not. Interesting...
