Cure for AIDS and Cancer?

I just thought about this. Do you think that scientists have already discovered the cure for cancer and AIDS? Do you think they are holding out on the public because they see a profit that can be made? The medical inudustry has already made billions from cancer treatments and AIDS treatments so they probably figure that if they release the cure, there goes all their money. Now, I don't think this is what is going on, I'm just curious, do other people think like this, or is it just me? And do you think that scientists would do this to us if they ever did find the cures?

I do have a family member who has cancer. My grandfather was diagnosed nearly 5 years ago with cancer which spread from his back to both of his lungs, and now something is growing in his lung. At that time, the doctors only gave him months to live, and its been 5 years since then and he's holding on strong

This is what most americans have thought for the past 15 years. But I worked as a mailboy for the largest pharmaceutical company (and got fired from there too for trying to take pictures of the animals they burn) and they have entire buildings dedicated to devoloping medicine for hiv. Id walk down the halls and it was all formulas and equations on drawing boards outside the labs. This could either mean they are working real hard to come up with a cure, or working real hard to stop one from being developed. I dont know why everybody answering this question keeps saying "Why would they do that, they will lose money"..........when you already explained in the question. When a cure is invented, pharamacuetical companies will lose lots of people who are paying for a monthly membership (monthly membership=Monthly doses of medicine). I mean how much could a cure possibly cost a patient if they did invent it? 1000 dollars at the most? The lifetime medicine cost of someone who has hiv is over half a million dollars. I don't see why they wouldn't want to keep the cure a secret. They will make alot more money as long as people stay sick. But if somebody actually invented it, they are still human and humans are weak and like recognition. If a person invented it, they would be far too weak of a person to keep it secret. They would tell everybody, no matter how much money they would lose. Most people would anyways.

no, there is no cure. if someone DID discover a cure for it they wouldnt hold it from the public. they could save thousands of lives and be incredibly wealthy

And you do raise a good point, but I honestly don't think there is a cure yet.
And I don't know if the scientist would do this. Some of them have morals so I hope this would never happen

if someone discovered the cure for cancer or aids im sure they would not want to hide it because their name would go down in history and they would be pretty flippin rich......if there was a cure for either of these treatments they could still make plenty of money......you can.t imagine the number of people who have cancer and how many different parts of the body cancer can affect.....

It sounds like a possibility, although even if cures were found for either today, it would be many, many years before it is available to the public (due to experimental testings and regulations set by agencies such as the FDA and CDC).

Personally, I feel like some companies out there have good intentions when they make and release products such as anti-bacterial soaps. Although it helps clean and "remove" these germs that kill people, ultimately we are reducing the number of deaths that are already outnumbered by the number of births in the world. In addition, bacteria and viruses grow at such an alarming rate that a slight favorable mutation for one can potentially result in more deaths than if anti-bacterial soap was never invented.

legally they couldn't hold it back, that's a medicinal crime. profit is less important than this unexplainable plague that has evolved into such a terrible, harmful infectious sickness. and most of the researchers for those two fields are professionals only in it for the people. not the money.

I believe that no one will find a cure. They do not want to! They want to say they do, and come out with TREATMENTS never ever a cure.
You see with a treatment, a partial help, research can continue, the thousands of people employed in fund raising, the millions that uses up paying for future fund raising, as well as the entire INDUSTRY it has created would stop existing. Cures are not wanted only partial aids.
Think about the billions of dollars that have been raised, not just millions the billions of dollars raised for Cancer research. All we get are better treatments that fail after a while so research must continue!!!
Aids is a virus they can not cure because it evolves and changes like the flu, so they tell us. Only new treatments and new drugs can help ( in ten or twenty years after more testing)
If a scientist finds a cure for a paticular strain or type of cancer it won't work for everyone anyway. Chances are it would disapear before your or I would find out about it and most likely so would that scientist.

There isn't a magic bullet that cures all cancers and there never will be Cancer is hundreds of diseases, not just one. Different cancers are caused by different things, so no one strategy can prevent them, and different cancers respond to different treatments so no one treatment can cure them all. Some cancers can already be cured though, especially if found early.

Think seriously about the conspiracy theory.

In order to prove that any secret, hidden cure worked, several hundred people would have to have been cured by it (otherwise how would its discoverers know it worked?). Every single one of these people would be keeping quiet about it鈥?not a word to the media from any of them, or any of their delighted relatives and friends.

And drug companies would be keeping quiet about the cure too, even though it would bring them fame and fortune. Any drug company discovering a cure would make far more money than they can have dreamed of making up till now.

Doctors, scientists, researchers etc would be watching their relatives die and dying themselves (they and their families develop cancer at the same rate as the rest of the population) rather than revealing the existing secret cure


Most unlikely of all, every medical professional in the whole world would have agreed to keep existence of a cure secret. Every single one. One blabbermouth, one disgruntled researcher or sacked nurse and the whole conspiracy鈥檚 blown. Newspapers and other media wouldn't have got a sniff of it. Likely? -and is it likely that these people, who went into medicine to help people, would be conspiring to kill them? If they wanted to make a fortune, medicine was a very poor choice of career.

I live in the UK, and I had surgery, chemo and radiotherapy. I paid not one penny for any of it, because we have a national health service - the state paid for it. And as you see, we have exactly the same treatments as people in America, whence these conspiracy theories usually come. Cancer costs our government billions; BELIEVE ME, if there were an effective cure, they'd pick that over expensive chemo; as it is I may be back some time with a recurrence to cost them even more money. (Oh, and my oncologist, my surgeon, my family doctor all drew exactly the same salary during my treatment as they would have had I never had cancer, so they wouldn鈥檛 benefit from any conspiracy to hide a cure.)

Current treatments aren鈥檛 perfect 鈥?far from it. But we know, because they鈥檝e been rigorously tested and proven in double-blind clinical trials, that they save many lives and prolong many many more, and there is dedicated (and underfunded) hard work going on to find the cures to all cancers.

CANCER: They've got something in England for AIDS, it has something to do with oxygenating the blood I think. If you look it up online you'll find it.
