How much does the average treatment of aids cost? |
How much does the average treatment of aids cost? To clear things first, people get treated for HIV. AIDS is what happens as a result of HIV. Treatment for AIDS depends on the opportunistic infections that ocurr while a person has a weakened immune system. With that out of the way let me tell that a major study that appeared in the November 2006 issue of Medical Care, says that the average lifetime cost of HIV treatment is $618,900. From personal experience I know that if I were not insured I'd be paying an average of $24,000 every month for my current regimen; which frankly would be impossible in my income. I'm in Canada and this is what it cost is in Canadian $$ every 3 months when I get my prescription refilled. 3 months worth of Sustiva=$1553.41 and for the Combivir=$1938.79, I also take Apo-Sulfatrim DS which is $20.43. I just got it refilled Monday so I had all the receipts on hand, in case your wondering where I got the prices from. |
