Is the best cure for AIDS medical treatment ? or spiritual-moral education ?

Thank you for all sincere answers.

Peace and progress into all Truth !

On the AIDS epidemic, the African country Uganda emphasized abstinence and fidelity in marriage, not condoms and promiscuity, and thus reduced its AIDS infection rate from 30% of the population to 6% in a matter of a few years. In 2004, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni told the International AIDS Conference in Bangkok that the emphasis on condoms was killing uncountable millions of Africans by encouraging them to sexual promiscuity and a false sense of security.

Museveni said that to fight AIDS, societies must strive for 鈥渙ptimal relationships based on love and trust instead of institutionalized mistrust which is what the condom is all about.鈥?br>
The Ugandan abstinence program, however, was largely dismantled by international AIDS organizations infuriated that their condoms-and-promiscuity approach had been so dramatically repudiated in practice."

With better morals, people might not need medical treatment

Keeping our brains in our heads, instead of between our legs.

Sex Ed honey and medical treatment.

Spiritual indoctrination (i.e. abstinence, no birth control, etc...) has been proven to be of absolutely no value, and in the case of Africa-absolutely devastating.

Does medical treatment need a cure?

There is no cure for AIDS but education (true sex-ed with talk about condoms not abstinence only education) is probably the best bet for reducing the spread of AIDS.

Good Catholic Atheist.

I'm not sure if any clinical trials have been done to see the effects of "spiritual-moral education" in the treatment of HIV/AIDS, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that medical treatment is the best option. Just a guess, though.

Both are necessary.

Spiritual/moral education can not cure HIV/AIDS or anything else.

Health education will help prevent the spread of HIV.

Atheist.
.

That depends on whether you want to die horribly or not.

There are no recorded cases of spirituality healign someone with AIDS, and Catholic indoctrination in Sub Saharan Africa is one of the main reasons that the AIDS crisis is so prevalent there.

THose thats zero point on two counts for spiritual education.

Here in the US, the best "cure" for HIV/AIDS is not spiritual-moral education, but education about how the disease is spread and how to prevent it. Abstinence education is wishful thinking. People seriously need to learn how to protect themselves.

I'm a Christian.

I am a christian and I attend a baptist church.

To answer you question....YES!
I believe that to PREVENT AIDS moral education is effective and to treat AIDS medical treatment and prayer and a church family to support you are both important. Afterall, God gave us the minds to created these treatments why would we not use them?

Spiritual and moral education is not the best cure for AIDS. In fact, it does not cure it at all. Spiritual and moral education is a good prevention system for those who has not contracted aid yet. What can moral or spiritual education do for those who contracted aid at birth or through a blood transfusion?

Free from Religion - Just me and God.

Sex education along with medical treatment I believe is the best options. Non-religious.

The best cure will be found in medicine. Not everyone who gets aids got it from immoral activity. There are sixty million infants with it, you understand.

But a decent grasp of morality (by which I don't mean just religious teachings, but humanism and true love of ALL your fellow humans) will certainly help build a world in which people are not depraved, which is one of the factors that truly spreads the blight.

There is no one answer to this scourge... just as there is no one clear explanation for how it ever arose in the first place.

My religion is hybrid, Christian ethics with Buddhist discipline.
I don't believe in God per se, but I believe in the Godhead of all conscious minds.

Both are important in fighting AIDS.

To ignore the fact that sexual behavior contributes to rising AIDS cases can be deadly. Therefore, spiritual and moral education is crucial in teaching the important of the abstinence method. We want people to have the best preventative out there - and the best one is abstinence and monogamy after marriage.

However, the millions of people now affected need medical treatment, therefore we cannot ignore that part of the equation either. Compassionate medical care for those suffering is completely in line with the Christian philosophy of bearing one another's burdens and showing love to our neighbor.

Many here have posted their best guesses about what works, but no have provided proof or evidence.

Take Uganda as a good case study. Only this sub-saharan country has successfully combated AIDS. Its HIV prevalence rate has plummeted in recent years. Over 18% of the adult population tested positive for the AIDS virus in 1992. By the end of 2005, only 6.7% did. This is largely due to the program "Education for Life" which promotes abstinence and fidelity in marriage.

Pax Vobiscum+

There is no cure for AIDS as at now.

Education can help reduce the spread of AIDS.

People can find ways to get around the infection (e.g condoms etc). But there's no way anyone can get around the Biblical command to flee from fornication and avoid adultery.

If everyone applied Bible principles in their lives (avoiding fornication, adultery, blood transfusions and practicing monogamy), AIDS would not be a problem.

If people kept to Biblical morality, would there even be STDs? Certainly not an AIDS epidemic? It is the crisis it is because of lack of moral integrity in the world.

Sure there might be some disease on a few people. These could be treated by medicines. The numbers are what kills so many.

The best cure for AIDS is medical treatment and spiritual-moral education.

That is a sentence, not a question. God provided Doctors to heal us of the things they can through the knowledge God has given them.

I am a Christian.

if you want to prolong your life... western medicine

The best cure for AIDS is a combination of approaches. Spiritual-moral education that urges people to trust God in life and that urges abstinence in sexual matters outside of marriage. Plus, obviously, any medical remedies that can cure this horrible disease. I don't mean to suggest that all people who get AIDS get it from sexual sources. This deadly disease can be transmitted many ways. And no matter how a person gets sick, when someone becomes ill they need a cure, not an accusation. This is a terrible illness that affects so many people. Another part of the cure is prayer from those of us who know God and His mercy.

Without God's help the hope for curing AIDS is small. We need God's help in every area of life, especially in such severe problems. I am a Christian. I have no religion; I have a relationship with Jesus Christ. This relationship guides every part of my life - it is my life.

there currently isn't a cure for AIDS

so the best "cure" is prevention

the best prevention is proper sex education.

Abstinence only does not work and will never work.

(atheist - no religion)

Hi Brother Dave, The best defense is a good offense. I believe the answer lies in good education & decent morals.

Interesting question dear.
You do know that the highest level of STD's and teen pregnancies are in the states that chose to preach abstinence and so called religious values to teenagers instead of sex education and prevention....

I don't have one religion persay, I know what I believe is in my heart and soul and I believe in our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Regarding, AIDS, I have seen the ravages of this horrible disease, as I have worked in the medical field previously. All I can say is that currently there is no cure for this horrible disease but there are treatments to help to ease some of the suffering. Medicine can help to prolong the inevitable, but I don't know that I would take this route personally. I can't say what I would do if I were diagnosed with such. I only know that I have worked with many AIDS patients and each one is different. I know that faith gets one through many, many situations but I do not think that it will cure this terrible disease.
