Why when someone is challenged by lust...?

...do we advice them to just get married?

Think about it, I know it's spiritually recommended, but to me it seems like a Band-aid solution.

I just read a question where someone is tempted to watch porn, and someone recommended marriage to help him with this. I have heard many people who are currently having marital problems because they are addicted to porn on the side and their spouse is devastated by this.

If we say that taking a second wife is wrong if it's just to abate sexual desire, then why do we recommend someone to get married to do the same? This is not fair to the spouse in my opinion and only lying to yourself.

If you can't control yourself I think the last thing you should do is "use" someone to as a temporary solution. If your problem is sexual addiction then merely sating that lust will do nothing. Sexual addiction is a spiritual problem. I don't see how a physical 'treatment' solves it. The person should rather pray and beg for mercy and strength to deal with the

temptation rather than ruin another person's life by dragging them into the mess.

To me, it's like, if someone is addicted to cigarettes, you tell them to smoke more, or if they can't stop over eating, you give them more and more food in hopes something will one day tick in their minds and they'll decide they've had their fill.

Does this make sense? I in know way mean to offend anyone, especially if you're in a polygamous marriage and/or married in the first place to deal with lust. I DO get the idea behind it, but what concerns me is how lightly this 'solution' can be used. And personally, just in my opinion, I don't see how this can solve anything.

Well this is an interesting point. I think with young men the problem of looking at porn is paramount these days with everything so readily available via the Internet. Marriage is part of the solution, but I feel it is not the end all for someone who is addicted to porn. Now a young man who is addicted to porn seriously is different from the average young man who feels like he cannot stay without being married. I don't see them as the same. An addiction has to be treated and left untreated will only get worse.

If one is single and he is watching porn then the reason for that could be because he is single then the reasonable solution is to get married , this is the best way to solve this problem if he is willing to change and stop watching it . If after marriage he still watches porn then this is the time he has to seek spiritual treatment .

Its not just about geting rid of the temptation, its about controlling the Reaction to it.....Jihad against ones nafs....Insha'Allah thru prayer, doing good deeds, one can clean the heart...but while we all should be doing this, we still must control the reaction to our desires. Read the book, "purification of the heart" Allah knows best

Prayer is best and the prophet (pbuh) advised fasting or doing exercise to help reduce the lust level, these are reasonable alternatives to rushing into marriage.
