Life expectancy after full-blown AIDS diagnosed?

I man I haven't seen in almost 13 years has been diagnosed with AIDS. I know there is no one right answer, but in general, how long could he expect to live now? Are we talking less than a year? Five years? More or less?

He lived a high risk lifestyle and I would imagine has not gotten good medical treatment in the past. I am not sure how he is being medically treated now though.

Well, you hit the nail on the head here. Medical treatment can help prolong the life span, but as we all know there is no cure for AIDS. With that being said, it depends on how long he has it, how healthy he is and how well he continues to take care of himself. With a disease like this one, many times it is not the AIDS itself that kills a person rather they get an infection like pnumonia that they can not fight. There is no telling how long he has... towards the end it will be obious that his time is creeping up on you. In the mean time, just enjoy his company and continue to be his friend. Enjoy the time you guys have left and do not worry about the future. I know that this is not the answer you wanted... but a timeline is not easily given. Take each day as it comes and be the best friend you know how to be. Good luck.

Unfortunately, it is not possible for anyone to answer your question. Length of life of someone who has HIV, or even full-blown AIDS, depends on many factors, including the person's health prior to infection, response to the virus, response to the treatment, and whether or not the person is following through with treatment as advised by a specialist. However, someone with full-blown AIDS may have a shorter lifespan because by that point, they would not be able to fight off other infections, any of which could kill them.

This all depends on how early the person is diagnosed and treatment such person is on and how long they still are using the meds. People are living alot longer now than before. studies show an average of 6 years, before in the 90s were dying within a 18 month span after being diagnosed with full blowen aids.(1990s).But since then this has jumped to 11 years now ,and this was in 2000 data. This very much may be increased by now The drug combos used today make people live longer healthy and happier lives. ( by Dr Pat Hawkins)

My Brother in law is full blown AIDS, due to a drugs & gay society in London. Poor soul, we thought, what a sadness.

That was 13 years ago, and he is in fine fettle, overweight, sporty, etc, so has somehow defeated it.

No special treatments involved, he just said " I am paying the price of a gay hedonistic lifestyle, but it will not kill me"

Well, so far it hasn't, so hope is on the horizon !

Bob, the heterosexual with a bad cold.

He need to have medical treatment so they can give him meds to prolong his life. Although most people do not die from aids they die from an infection such as pneumonia that is essential how they die not from the aids virus itself good luck have him find a doctor.
