Think about all the money going to churches when it could be funding things like vaccines for thrid world countries, scientific research on cancer/aids/all diseases, help the destruction of our planet, but no it is there to pay the salary and the missionary work of men who are trying to keep people mindless sheep. (which they themselves claim to be, the lord is their shepard).

for anyone that thinks that the church is honestly doing everything that they can to help the sick and homeless...

the Vatican is worth Billions. enough money in ONE church owned property to feed most of Africa for the next 20 years.

will they sell it and donate the money to people thatreally need it.

will they give of themselves and make the lives of others better for generations to come.

I pay Taxes in the USA. and this money goes to these things and many more. when i have extra money i donate it to things that will help my local community.

I recycle, and i work for a company that makes Solar Power Panels and develops "alternative energy" ....as for cancer and diseases...TAXES again.

If the church is doing altruistic activity, like honestly helping the sick or homeless without forcing their values as the "price" for assistance, then how is that frightening? Good work is then being done and it's of great benefit.

I could bet that you don't. You are obviously the mindless stand by who judges other people for something you should be doing yourself. You should really think before you portray your crippled logic to other participants.

No worse than all the money that goes to Hollywood celebrities that could instead be going to support the causes you mention.

No one seems to care about that though. People are too busy worshipping their celebrity heros I guess.

Don't pay money to a church that uses dubious methods of recruiting new members or raising money.
Such things do happen in some places, not all churches are what they should be and not even the "Eastern Orthodox Church" is perfectly moral.
And don't go crazy thinking about the people that are not smart enough to see that they are fools and giving away their money to some people that will use them in absurd things like sending missionaries in foreign countries...

If you would do a little research you would find that a lot of the money does go to the causes you support. Also most Christians donate money to other organizations who fund your causes above and beyond what they give to the church. Quit being such a hater.

Or for building the biggest and best church in town.

There is enough money in this world to adequately fund everything you mention and then some, but it's not the money going to churches that robs these worthwhile projects. I heard once that many third world countries could live off of American garbage cans. As long as we feel we need to live in multi-million dollar houses, spend zillions of dollars on "toys", take expensive vacations, own more vehicles than there are drivers in the family, etc. there will be unmet needs. It is noteworthy that people who support their churches faithfully also believe that they should "love their neighbor as themselves", thus those same people who are responsible for "all the money going to churches" also give more to humanitarian causes than most non-churched citizens. Since I gather you are probably not a "mindless sheep", it would be interesting to see your proof of donation for the projects you mentioned for 2006. That would give some credibility to your question.
