Would an AIDS vaccine pave the way for a sexual revolution or? |
do you think most people have learned from the past few decades? Unfortunately, I don't know how much people have learned over that past few decades. I know that some people really learned the hard way (losing their friends to aids) and the hardest way (living with aids)...but the message never seems to really spread to the straight community. A lot of them still think of it as a gay disease...they seem utterly unable to hear the cries from Africa and of straights in their own communitys. It's really sad. However, I do think that a vaccine would lead to a revolution of sorts. I think that people would be much more easily sexual with each other...at least until another devastating illness came along (I don't want to sound negative...but that's what happens...devastating illnesses just seem to come out of nowhere and decimate the population, opportunistically) of course I'm not talking exclusively about sexually transmitted diseases necessarily. I can only hope that they do find a vaccine/cure for Aids and that mankind has learned something. Although I would love to believe people have learned, I think the younger generations would start a new sexual revolution, we already see it in some young people who have unprotected sex and shrug off any danger or concern. no, not at all. Look at the stats again, AIDS is on the rise again. AIDS is not the only STD out there. I don't think there would be any revolution. I think the revolution already started, but is not yet finished. I think the real question should be; "Why does the religious-right think that the HPV vaccine would cause girls to be more sexually active or at a younger age?" first of all do your history, the sexual revolution was in the late sixties, shortly after blacks were finally treated like human beings. I think with an AIDS vaccine, people would just start to be less careful again, and then another disease will develop that we will go through the same issue again. I hope, though, that people will be smart enough to learn from the past, and continue safe-sex policies! It will encourage some to revert to the old ways and others to be nore carefull. We'd still have hepatitis, herpes etc. Unfortunately, I think for many people, especially the younger generation, an AIDS vaccine would be a permission slip for sexual promiscuity. People (most) have not learned and have a tendency to forget about the many other (possibly life threatening) STD's. Sad. People ain't learned JACK! i think it would I dont think the fact that hiv is running rampid has slowed down sex ....remember the song by la tour? Well, an HIV vaccine would be great for stopping a burgeoning and costly health crisis. But, as other people have pointed out, HIV isn't the only STD. People are still having unprotected sex with multiple partners. i think people always will. unfortunately, after HIV is eliminated, something else will come along. That's life, plain and simple and the way most virologists think about public health. the history of humankind is shaped by plagues. this is just the latest one. maybe the next one won't be sexually transmitted, but close human contact is exactly the sort of thing that breeds new diseases. so if hiv were to be diminished, unprotected sex with multiple partners would probably lead to another disease. I think we've learned. younger generations will react differently from older ones. First of all, let's get things straight. A.I.D.S. is not a disease, A.I.D.S. is simply the acronym given to a collection of diseases a person gets when their body's immune system can no longer handle the extreme stress it's been put through. the chances of a vaccine for HIV are slim to none. The concept of a vaccine is that one introduces dead viruses into the bloodstream so that the helper-t cells will later recognise the virus as an invader and cause the body to produce antibodies to destroy the live virus. Unfortunately , the HIVirus attacks and destroys the helper-t cells so a vaccine doesn't work with HIV.Sorry to burst your bubble. YES, REVOLUTION AND MORE SEXUAL DEPRAVITY. Why spend the money on a vaccine? AIDS is the most preventable disease a person could catch. |
