One of the more recent significant HIV vaccine trials was conducts by Merck. Last November, the trial ended due to failure to produce any consistent results among volunteers. Vaccination efforts continue worldwide. Once a vaccine is discovered, there will be the political-economic hurdle of dissemination and treatment. This, of course, does not address those currently infected with HIV which is another set of clinical studies altogether.

The vaccine is still being worked on. There have been some set backs in the trials. Even after they find a vaccine that may work, there will need to be up to 5 years of trials on it.
