If a vaccine was found that prevented AIDs, STDs, HPV etc, would you get it for your child?

There is the HPV vaccination that is supposed to be given to females between the ages of 9 to 25 to prevent certain types of cervical cancers.

So hypothetically speaking, if there was a vaccine with no serious side effects that could prevent against life threatening diseases related to sexual activity, would you get it for your child?
Diseases like AIDs, STDs, and the HPV vaccine etc?

Or would you not because you think it might encourage them to participate in premarital sex?
Also please state your religion/lack there of.

Thanks be to thee.

Oh and obviously the child is under 18, so the decision would be yours.

If there was enough scientific evidence and tests to say the drug was safe, I would certainly allow my child to have the vaccine. I would also speak to my child concerning being responsible about sexual activities. Even if a person refrains from sexual encounters until they are married, this is no guarantee that won't ever contract a disease.

I would most definitely give my children these vaccines if i had children.I'm catholic and while i dont follow all it's practices i try to be a faithful person. As with all religions(the good ones) the preservation of life is one of the staples of the religion. As a catholic, i was told that suicide would send you to hell now i obviously havent commited suicide or intend to because even though i'm not a very relgious person i want to live and dont want to see others hurt. These vaccines would probably encourage them to do premarital sex however i think if the parents are patient but strong the kid will follow suit and not do it.

I always thought about why people only think you can catch an STD outside of marriage. I am a firm believer in waiting for marriage to have sex cause I am also a firm believer that sex was designed for marriage. But who's to say you won't catch one cause your husband or wife wasn't careful before marriage?

Anyway, I don't think I would get if for my children cause I think it would encourage them, or at least let them in on the impression, that sex before marriage is okay.

I personally believe that those diseases are the punishment on us for not following what God instructed in the first place.

I don't think these diseases would alter your sexual desire and discourage you from having sex, so with or without the vaccine the desire would be the same. A vaccine is essential to protect large amounts of people, we have also to think about people raped, about us infecting others if we had the disease and other issues. AIDS and the diseases you mentioned can be transmitted in other ways sometimes than sexually.

Of course I would give my children this vaccine. Sexual reproduction is the force that drives evolution. If I did not give my children this vaccine, then their likelihood of reproducing is less and my genes will not be passed on. Also, this would allow my child not to worry about obtaining sexually transmitted diseases from blood transfusions and other means.

Atheist

I am 19 and I was told I couldn't have the cervical cancer injection because I am too old :(

Not that it matters. Im not planning to have sex with anyone apart from the man I love (which we know is the cause the injection is protecting against)

And thus, yes, I would give permission for my child to have all these injections. I would also actively teach them safe sex and moral sex (moral being not being easy, and making sure you have a strong and comfortable connection with someone etc protection etcetc)

I am a spiritual agnostic :)

Yes.
I don't think it encourages premarital sex at all. What about rape? People with nasty diseases are known to rape people. I would be protecting my child from getting one of these diseases either due to a major mistake, or due to being viciously attacked. My job, as a parent, is to protect my child. I would consider this protecting my child.

I was raised Catholic, but I am Agnostic.

Except for the STD, those can be cured with an antibiotic!
YES! Without hesitation!
If I had a child under 18, I would be aware of her activities. But, if I discovered her to be sexually active?, she would get the shots!
She would get the Cervical Cancer shot at the age of fourteen! I would rather have her safe!
Same applies to the AIDS virus.
The religious are the only ones who seem to have a problem with sexual issues! In my family ?, that is not the case!!

I perhaps would get my child vaccinated. BUT I wouldn't tell her what it was. Perhaps I'd tell her it was just a shot that she had missed for school that year or something.

I'm a Christian. I'm not saying my solution is the only solution or that it'd be good in every situation, but it is just my first impulse.

i would study it for myself very carefully. if they can prove that vaccines do not cause Autism (which they have not proved yet), and if they can give it to my child after the age of 12, i would. as it stands right now, i would not have my child vaccinated - too risky.

DUH OF COURSE! There going to eventually like in 20 years, or something, It's Idiotic not to, Curing a disease. or well preventing it. That is f-ing Amazing!

Of course, to say you wouldn't would be wrong and make you a horrible parent to be honest. I dont have an issue with premarital sex. I am somewhat religious..but really, as long as they are happy and healthy thats all that matters.

"If a vaccine was found that prevented AIDs, STDs, HPV etc, would you get it for your child?"

Yes. I would get it for myself, too.

Dang!
um, I guess I would get the vaccine. it is smart to teach your kids well, also to pray for them and hope for the best, but it makes sense to plan for the worst

Christian

good question
God bless

Of course, why wouldn't I?

My kid can have pre-marital sex if they want, as long as they're safe and know what they're exactly getting into, understand the consequences, etc.

1. You can get STI's in marriage.
2. Good things are that which prosper life, therefore getting the vaccine is good.
3. AIDS can be transferred male-female etc.

Yes. As long as I knew that there were no risks or side effects. I think a girl died from that HPV or cervical cancer vaccine. Oh yeah, it is Gardisil.

Sure but with false warning. Just to make sure they use their common sense about their decision on Sex.

"It may cure you the first time but that second times the charm isn't always the luckiest."

Agnostic

I most defiantly would. Anything I could do to prevent my daughter from getting a disease I would do.

And I'm an Atheist.

Hell yeah, I don't have a problem with premarital sex or sex play between teenagers. I'm Buddhist/Taoist Sex is natural.

unfortunately the US government has kept the aids vaccine under raps for years.

Of course I would. And why is that vaccine only for women? Frickin' sexists....lol.

And I'd shoot myself up with it if I could.

premarital sex is normal human behavior
atheist

Why not teach them to abstain from premarital sex?

Of course i would only a bad parent wouldn't

DUH. Damn, I'll want that vaccine myself.

I'd give it to myself, if it was so great.

Absolutely. Why would I choose not to protect my child?

of course!

yes duh

There already is one and His Name is Jesus and my child has already been vaccinated , by His Blood .
