Random (kinda sick) question about AIDS...?

OK, so my husband I were talking about diseases you can catch from animals and eating animals and my husband raised the question, if you're a cannibal can you catch diseases from the humans? Like if you eat someone with AIDS but you cook 'em first will that kill the virus? I know, sick question! but he's curious! =)

This really isn't a sick question. But you've gotten some pretty sick answers. Or shall I say, grossly incorrect answers.
First of all AIDS is a viral infection which means it requires a host. It can only replicate via another cell. One cannot acquire AIDS through the ingestion of animal meat. Although animals can contract AIDS, we humans are somewhat different from other animals. I cannot answer your question with complete certainty nor can anyone else. I am amazed by the person who wondered about contracting AIDS from plants. PLANT cell are different from ANIMAL cells. That's biology 101. Sorry, that I cannot help you with this in greater detail. I will close with this though, Whoever made the statement that you must be bored and needed to have sex is obviously intrigued by your question enough to respond to it.

Yup you would get the virus.. thats why you have to be careful about what animals you eat too.. did you know that animals can get aids??? so really you can get aids from eatinga cow.. how weird is that.. be a vega tarrion.. i wonder if plants can have aids.. hmmm

I don't believe that would happen...the reason being once the virus hits the air it is inactive. If you have taken meat out and cooked it it would be exposed to air...however if you don't cook the meat I don't really know...just another reason not to get rare meat lol.

The HIV virus is pretty delicate. Cooking will definately kill it. If you were to fail to cook it well enough, stomach acid would do the rest. HIV needs blood to blood, or semen to blood, to do its thing.

Other diseases are less delicate. Let's not talk about those.

It could only possible if you consume large amount of fresh flesh / blood (so it could probably pass gastric acid), and if you have some intestines ulcer in the same time.
