What does a cold virus do to your body APART FROM those symptoms caused by your body fighting it?

So people with compromised immune systems (e.g. advanced AIDS patients) can die from a cold. What does the virus actually do to them? How does it kill them?

Colds make the upper respiratory system less resistant to bacterial infection. Secondary bacterial infection may lead to middle ear infection, bronchitis, pneumonia, sinus infection, or strep throat. People with chronic lung disease, asthma, diabetes, or a weakened immune system are more likely to develop these complications.

Still working on it, but here's what I found thus far.

It destroys living cells in your mucosa (more or less the lining of your mouthe, lungs and throat). This is why your body fights it.
