Another question about virus vaccines???

How come they can make a permanent vaccine for things like chicken pox, but they can only make a temporary vaccine for the flue, and they cannot make even a temporary vaccine for aids. Why are some viruses able to make themselves immune to vaccines so quickly while other viruses cannot?

Chicken pox is one virus/disease. Easy.

The flu is a million different viruses/diseases. It is a different virus/disease every year. It mutates that fast. A vaccine for each one has to be developed separately. Hard.

There is progress on an AIDS vaccine. It takes time to research and develop these things. Come on. Do you think we had a flu vaccine only 20 years after we figured out the flu? No! And the chicken pox vaccine is only a few years old. We've been getting chicken pox for ages though.

This belongs in the Heatlh category sugar (Diseases), not Friends. The folks over there might be able to help ya out.

because the flu changes every year so they cannot make a vaccine for it
if it stayed the same we could use the same vaccine every year
there may come a day that the flu gets so bad there will be NO vaccine for it

The flu virus is different every year. Scientists estimate which strain is most likely to hit this season and that is the vaccine they provide. If you remember a couple years ago they came out and said the vaccine they provided that year probably would not help against the strain that actually ended up hitting. Some viruses have incredible mutate capacities and it is hard to make just one fix all vaccine. They also have to spend millions of dollars to get them approved by the FDA and that could be the hold up on some as well.
