Is religion aids of the mind?

I just read a couple of ugly and uncalled for threats under another persons question... threatening a gay guy with aids as punishment for being gay...I think religion is perhaps like aids an equally debilitating virus, it keeps the host alive whilst annihilating his powers of reason...what do you think.

jdmc2596, if what you say were true and it is not true...then where are all the heterosexuals getting aids from then, are they s ucking and sitting on too much gay d ick on the sly...makes you wonder?

I think you're familiar with the term "meme," meaning "thought-virus," correct?

yes

just shows ya how brainless and ill informed these people are. HIV, Holy Idiots Verse

No, I do not agree with you. Religion is the protection for all of us from all cultural and health diseases. The fact is , AIDS was noted first among gays, and it is more wide spread among them, more that any other group. check medical reports.

Certainly an interesting concept, I feel that I have to agree with you.

While I will defend a person's right to believe what they believe, I do not defend their right to spread hatred. It is my experience that many religious people have no mind of their own and can only spew forth scripture and have no other argument to defend their position than the fact that it says in the bible....yada...Heidi was a good book too but I don't live my life by it.

Abdulhag...it wasn't first noted in gay people...do your research.

hopefully

in answer to your question i have to agree with you it seems to me that alot people use their so called belief to say some pretty revolting this about people and for that reason i am glad i am not infected like themxxx

When religion is twisted in its extreme it does become dangerous.
Interpreting concepts in a fundamentalist fashion makes people overly self righteous and judgmental.
Such people behave as if they were the loudspeaker of the Almighty.
They are obviously not.

I think you're a dumbass who doesn't know what he's talking about. I can't stand how you people do this. You group all christians together because one of them says something you don't like. Here i'm gonna prove you wrong. I have gay friends, I make perfect grades in all my classes and i am in gifted class. Finally.....wait for it......I'M CATHOLIC.

No, it is not. However, I agree that such threats are ridiculous and uncalled for, especially not by any so-called religious person.

YES BECAUSE ITS LIKE A VIRUS THAT KILLS AND SEPARATES PEOPLE IT CREATES DIFFERENT TRUTH THAT SEPARATES PRINCIPLES RATHER THAN " LOVING ONE ANOTHER " PRINCIPLE.

Religion is one of the more successful Memes. It's like a computer virus but it spreads from one mind to another.

No. As believers, we say that the Word of God is Life, and Jesus was the Word in Flesh. No one should be rendering judgments of sickness on to anyone for their lifestyle, life choices, etc. As Christians we are called to show compassion, love and mercy to our fellow man. If some do otherwise, then they have fallen short-as we all have at one time or another in our lives...we're human! Unfortunately, it gives the opportunity for those, like yourself, who already have a prejudice towards a certain belief system to further justify the prejudice and in some cases, outright hatred. This is unfortunate, for both sides.

The truth of the matter is that every choice we make in life has a consequence. There is cause and effect...everything we do or fail to do, will have an impact on one or many others who share this planet with us. We have to make better choices, and amongst those choices should be to respect those with whom we come in contact-whether by email, yahoo answers, in person or otherwise; whether we share their beliefs or not.

Sorry to hear of un-Christian behaviour from people who call themselves Christians. I myself am guilty occasionally of it. I know what the bible teaches but sometimes, our sinful nature takes control rather than allowing ourselves to submit to the Spirit of God.

However, regarding Christianity removing reasoning, you are quite wrong. I am a doctor who was born to believe science and evolution and it was because of proper reasoning that made me become a Christian. Millions of scientists around the world are Christians. A short list of eminent scientists can be found on this blog http://setyourmindonhigherthings.blogspo... under EMINENT SCIENTISTS article.

With all due respect to the author of this question, anyone who is serious about understanding what religion really is would see the hollowness of such a question... Why not just ask "do you think people are a disease on the planet?"

It is not the religion or religious beliefs that cause problems for people, for if people live by their religious values, ethics and beliefs, there would be alot more compassion, and less ignorance, hatred and vanity in the world today.

Many people, including many of the respondants to this question, seem to forget that human weaknesses are at the heart of the issue being presented in this question.

If people would be more understanding, more considerate of others and less judgmental in labelling others around them (this includes mindless discussion), then none of these issues would arise.

If you want to change the world to become a better place, do it yourself, and see if you can act as good as you say. This is what people forget about the major religions of the world... They follow the example of people who have changed the world and inspire people to live better lives, rather than do nothing and complain about it.

Over 70% of aids come from 'Gays', where did the Christian go wrong?
