Can you contract aids through swallowing semen?

I am not a doctor or a scientist, but technically wouldn't the hydrochloric acid in your stomach kill the aids virus? A genuine doctor or scientist's opinion would be nice consider people don't know scientifically what they are talking about, even though they are entitled to their opinion.

Btw I do not have aids, nor do I swallow semen. Just curious

The problem isn't once it is in your stomach, it is how it gets there. Your mouth. If you have any cracks or cuts or sores in your mouth, or if you brush your teeth too hard it leaves a place for the virus to get into your blood stream. Also people can contract HIV from mucous membrane exposures (eyes, nose, mouth). This has been a problem for health care workers, and if you get infected body fluids on a mucous membrane it is treated the same way that being suck with a dirty needle is.

So yes, swallowing semen (having it in your mouth) can lead to HIV infection.

Your mouth is very vascular. The virus can enter under your tongue or any lesions in the mouth and throat.

His answer was:
"As your doctor, I cannot tell you that it comes with no risk, but to date, there is not sufficient evidence for us to believe it is transmitted orally."
From there, I had to make up my own mind.

You are making the assumption that the virus would not be able to get into your system until it reaches the acid of your stomach. Any compromised area along the path ie: scratch in your throat, a sore spot on your gums, etc, etc, can provide an opportunity for the virus to enter your body.

Going along with J S and Andie. The virus would be destroyed by the stomach hydrochloric acid once it gets there. However, the stomach is not the problem. Like those 2 posters said, mucous membranes and open sores in one's mouth offer locations for the virus to answer the body.

Yes, you can contract AIDS by swallowing semen. The acid in your stomach can kill the virus, but everybody has tiny, microscopic cuts in their mouths at any given time. The virus enters these cuts and goes directly into the bloodstream. That's how it is contracted. Does this help?
