Who agrees that Mike Huckabee is stupid? Isolating Aids carriers!?

Mike Huckabee once advocated isolating AIDS patients from the general public, opposed increased federal funding in the search for a cure and said homosexuality could "pose a dangerous public health risk."

As a candidate for a U.S. Senate seat in 1992, Huckabee answered 229 questions submitted to him by The Associated Press. Besides a quarantine, Huckabee suggested that Hollywood celebrities fund AIDS research from their own pockets, rather than federal health agencies.

"If the federal government is truly serious about doing something with the AIDS virus, we need to take steps that would isolate the carriers of this plague," Huckabee wrote.

It is difficult to understand the public policy towards AIDS. It is the first time in the history of civilization in which the carriers of a genuine plague have not been isolated from the general population, and in which this deadly disease for which there is no cure is being treated as a civil rights issue

I think he is stupid in suggesting Aids carriers be gathered and put together. It is very hard to recieve aids and those who do dont practice safe sex or they use needles used by those who carry AIDS. This is 2007 and his idea seems stupid its not like its infectious. I feel sad for people who have AIDS they have a hard life as is

While I understand where he is coming from, I also understand that his position is stemming from ignorance. Yes, it is possible to contract AIDS accidentally but it's very rare. It would be easier not to get it if it wasn't around but the fact is that AIDS is here and the people who have it are still human being, still Americans and still have rights as we all do. If you quarantined AIDS patients then you'd have to quarentine
TB patients, MRSA patients, Hepitis patients, herpes patients, syphillis patients, every patient with a transferable disease. That's not feasible for the public. AIDS is a disease that is still not fully understood and no, there isn't a cure for it so we need more funding and more research. Scientists have come a long way but they've still got a long way to go.
