Does any one have site on the aids virus please submit thank you?

my friend has the virus and dosnt have a computer she would like information conserning AZT quilified people !!please!?!what can you tell her about a child being born and having to take it for 6 months of her life . Does it cause side effects if so what are they have you or children experienced the side effects or what else you may no . thank you for the help shes experienceing her daughter going through changes of adhd.

It is possible for women with HIV/AIDS to have healthy children if they are on anti-retroviral therapy (ART) during their pregnancy. I would be extremely suprised to see a doctor perscribe AZT as a monotherapy for her or her child (if the child has been born with HIV/AIDS). While AZT exists in many of the older drugs (especially Protease Inhibitors), it usually is not a first choice medication in modern combo thereapies. AZT has been shown to be fairly toxic when used as a monotherapy, but its effects are somewhat alleviated when used in combination with other medications.

I would suggest checking out WebMD.com to see if they provide anymore information on specific side effects of AZT. If you know the name of the medication(s) she is on, you should be able to check on those as well (or by going to the pharmacuetical site for the medication).

Two other great resources to check out are at Poz.com and AIDSmeds.com. Poz has all sorts of articles, including one recently about HIV positive pregnacy. If she can't afford a subscription, POZ will send her their magazine for free. It is an excellent resource for anyone who is positive or caring for a positve loved one. AIDSmeds.com (which is also linked from POZ.com) has lots of information about the different medications used for treating HIV positive individuals.
