Did AIDS virus come from apes n monkeys?y didnt monkeys n apes die from AIDS?

y r apes n monkeys n gorillas immune from AIDS?

It is suspected that the AIDS virus originated from chimpanzees. The SIV virus which infects chimpanzees is transmitted to humans through close contact. Over time, the SIV virus, which is originally harmless, mutates and adapts itself to stay in the human body, thus becoming another strain (HIV) that is deadly to humans. In the process, it is no longer able to infect chimpanzees.

I guess the cell receptors of human and chimps are different. To infect the cells, the virus must have the set of receptors that can bind to those of the cells such as to enter them. Primates are so called immune to HIV (HIV is the virus that causes AIDS) because the configuration of receptors on the virus is not able to attach to the cells of the primates well.

no, the government gave it to the monkeys, and then sicked the monkeys on humans. in fact, they are watching us right now!!!!

Yes the HIV(Human Immuno-deficiency Virus) the causative agent of AIDS did come from monkeys. U see in man there are some cells called th T-cells and the T-helper cells. these are a kind of white blood cells which are the antibodies of disease fighting cells in our body. the HIV or AIDS virus attacks these cells and totally destroyes the immune system. These T-cells and T-helper cells are not found in monkeys. Hence the HIV does not occur in monkeys.

Yep it sure did! Hmmmm does that mean some sick pervert went to Africa nad ummmmm BOINKED some defenseless monkey???? scary thought! But yes it did originate with the gorillas

your major worry should be how did you get AIDS

Condoms don't protect
If the AIDS virus was the size of a pea then the pores in the condom would be the size of the holes in a chain link fence.

there are over 50 Sexually Transmitted Diseases common among teens and preteens today.
STD most don't have any symptoms
STD can have many at one time with no symptoms
STD can catch with any sexual contact
STD some can cause cancer
STD some can kill your baby right after birth if doctor doesn't
know about it
STD condom's don't protect you

Worry about keeping your self disease free and pure for marriage
AIDS is here to stay and getting more and more resistant to treatment every day.

PS This is for that other person - FOR YOUR INFORMATION THERE ARE HUMANS IN AFRICA ALREADY! HUMANS DID NOT HAVE TO GO THERE. HAVE YOU EVERY HEARD OF AFRICANS??? GO FIGURE

It is suspected that HIV was transmitted to humans from primates, but that is just the general suspicion. It seems to have somehow migrated from suspicion to fact in the eyes of the general populace.

In truth, scientists aren't 100% sure WHERE the disease came from. The first documented case of HIV came from a sailor who succumbed to the disease in 1951. Prior to that, there simply is no evidence of the disease running rampant anywhere.

Plus, monkey do not get HIV, they get SIV (simian immunodeficiany virus) which is very similiar to HIV but is NOT the same. Hope this helps.

Many viruses have a natural host species, an animal that can carry the virus without succumbing to the symptoms that virus would cause in another species. Other primates may be the a reservoir for HIV in nature, but it's just a theory. And no, species to species transmission of a virus doesn't require sexual contact. HIV could have made the jump to humans via a bite from a host primate. Some primates do suffer from a related virus, SIV (Simian Immunodefiency Virus.)

AIDS will probably never be traced to its immediate source, but scientists now know that the disease is native to the central African nations of Zaire, Burundi, Ugandi, Rwanda, Tanzania and Kenya, and that there is a species of monkey that abounds in that region, called the African "green", which carries a virus very similar in structure to that of the AIDS virus and in the very blood cells that AIDS prefers.

These monkeys do not react to the disease as humans and other primates do, probably because they have developed a built-in protection against it. Because of this, they may have been carrying the virus long before it became known to humans. The natives often sell the monkeys and sometimes eat their flesh. It is very probable that bites and scratches from the monkeys started the infection in man.

As the natives were forced from their independent tribes into the cities, the monkeys migrated with them, eating from garbage heaps and infecting other men by biting and scratching when they tried to chase them away. AIDS was first diagnosed a decade or two (perhaps even as far back as the 1960's) before it was detected in the United States. Various AIDS-like symptoms were found in some western-Africans who came to Europe.

It has been theorized that the AIDS virus may have come to America through Haiti, because thousands of people took part in a cultural exchange between French-speaking Zaire and the Caribbean Islands. It may then have been transmitted through homosexual males or IV drug abusers into New York, and then spread rapidly across the U.S., infecting homosexual and drug abusing communities, where the spread of infection has an ideal climate, especially for this type of virus.
