What is the lifespan of the AIDS virus?

Hello I鈥檓 curious. This question goes out to all the Dr.s of medicine. What is the lifespan of the AIDS virus? And is AIDS living or non-living?

All good answers, especially for the guy who has the virus, my deepest respect.... But what I meant was just one of the virus. JUST ONE. Like lets suppose the population of the United States where the virus. What would be the lifespan of just one.

AIDS lives with thehuman host untill the day it dies it goes from one person to another through some sort of blood transfusion sex, needles, cuts coldsores and blisters etc.

the virus wont live very long at all if not in a human or animal host. 1-2 weeks. ex. infected blood that is on a needle and is dried

I have hiv and the lifespan is that of the host. As long as I live I will have hiv and it will stay alive (unless a cure is found). Whether it turns into AIDS is based on my immune system and the effectiveness of the drug cocktail I am on. So far so good! No disease or symptoms, blood #'s are great! YAY for me.

there is no such thing as an AIDS virus incidentally. The virus is called HIV, and it is alive, like cancer or a flu. AIDS comes from HIV.

both answers 1 and 2 are wrong. Even after the virus spreads, it is still alive in the original host. and once it is alive, it is alive. I can spread it thru blood and semen, of course, and without a host, the hiv in the blood or sperm will die without a host. Like if I was to ejaculate on a towel, the virus would die. If I ejaculated into another person, it will attach itself to the t-helper cells (cd4 cells) and begin multiplying.
