Overture 4.0?

I downloaded overture4.0. I can't open it. It keeps saying "This program has been damaged, possibly by a bad sector of the hard drive or a virus. Please reinstall it." I reinstalled it but it still can't open. Can someone please come to my aid?

It would help to know which operating system and browser your computer is using. It would also help to know if you downloaded Overture from the GenieSoft website or if you tried installing from the available CD. So these are just some general ideas.

Uninstall the program again from control panel > add/remove programs. If it's not in the add/remove applet look for the program name in the start menu (start > all programs.) Right click on the name and see if there's an uninstall option.

Next, do an advanced search of all files and folders to remove all traces of orphan files. These files can prevent a clean reinstall.

Click start > search > all files and folders. First search for Overture (file name) in local drive C. Under more advanced options make sure to check mark the first 3 items (search system folders, hidden files/folders, and subfolders.) Run the search and delete any items that appear in the right side panel. Run the search a second time, but this time search for geniesoft. Files could be under either name.

Finally, clear your browser's cache of old cookies, temp files, etc. They can prevent a program from installing. Boston University prepared this help site. Click on your operating system and then your browser.

Once you've deleted the program, any remaining orphan files, and cleared your browser cache, try reinstalling. Before you do, check your firewall and antivirus programs for an "allow list" and add geniesoft overture to those lists. Sometimes a firewall or AV program will block a clean install.

Another possibility is if you're using Vista. Vista has had compatibility issues with older programs. You could try running Overture in Compatibility Mode.
