In Forrest Gump, what does Jenny die of?

I think it was AIDS, because she says that she has "some kind of virus and the doctors don't know what it is and there's nothing they can do about it". But, if they are in the early nineties, doctors would know what it was. The disease was first called GRID sometime in the mid eighties (ish) if I'm not mistaken, so it makes sense, but then again it doesn't...anyone know?

Yeah and that's the other thing. If Jenny did die of AIDS, wouldn't Forrest Jr. have it?

Yes, it was AIDS (but it's never really mentioned in the movie).
Maybe the doctors did not know what it was when she first got it but they knew when she died from it.

For the kid, I think it's like any other diseases. For example, if the mother has Hepatitis C and then has a kid, the risk of the kid getting the disease is less than 1%...I guess it would be the same for AIDS.

So the kid may be fine if he has 99% chance of not getting any disease from his mother.

Also, I read that
"the film chronicles Forrest Gump's accidental experiences with some of the most important people and events in America from the late 1950's through the 1970's including a meeting with Elvis Presley, JFK, Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, fighting in Vietnam, etc."

I'm not sure the movie goes to the early nineties, as you say, just because it's a 1994 movie.
I know that the first time they tested donated blood for HIV, in France was in the end of the summer of 1983. I know because I was one of the last people, in August, to receive untested blood and it was a miracle that I did not get the disease. Other people were not so lucky (they're all dead now), and it was a big controversy in France because they could have tested the blood at the beginning of the summer (some big government heads rolled up!).

You know, I think Forrest loved Jenny enough that he would have been willing not have intercourse with her knowing she was sick. There are ways married couples can keep each other satisfied without intercourse. I used to assume it was AIDS, but it could have been a number of things. Maybe hepatitis. I think they left it vague on purpose. We don't need to know. She made a lot of poor choices that ended up killing her and Forrest loved her through them all. That was the point.
And Forrest Jr. could have been a carrier with out having AIDS. He could have been born a day before she got the virus. Hereditary things are passed on through the sex genes so maybe it was something that hadn't gotten there yet.

Well i guess yeah, at least that's what my Dad and I can come up with!! It's that obvious Jenny got HIV maybe even went to the stage od AIDS!! Well from the look of how the movie ended Forest Gump Jr. is normal HIV & AIDS free...yeah!!
The Movies was great and had a little bit of everything from Funny to drama to action, it had it all!! I still feel sorry for Forest Gump though, he ony had eyes for Jenny!!
