I have a friend living with me who has aids, I picked up her bloody bandaid,how long does virus live?

If you are that worried about it, why are you letting her live with you? I would say that you most likely would never contract AIDS from her, but if I was that paranoid about it I would always use gloves.

AIDS is not an airborne virus. It can not live unless it is inside of the body. So picking up her band-aid will NOT give you aids. Kissing her will not give you aids either because it is not in the saliva. You can touch her blood as much as you want but there is no living virus in it, so don't worry about it. The only way you could get the virus through blood is if you inject her blood into you with a needle. Just to be on the safe side, make sure the blood didn't go into you through an open wound, just in case there is one cell that miraculously lived and would begin to multiply, which is almost impossible. Don't worry, you'll be fine =)

ah, i cant exactly remember from biology/health class but HIV has a very short and sensitive life span outside the body, i would say 30ish minutes if i remember, not positive but either way you are fine, its a blood to blood/fluid to fluid transmitter, you wont get HIV from it, and there probably wasn't a high enough concentration of the virus on the band aid anyways.

The virus doesn't last long at all outside the body. Hepatitis on the other hand will last a long time. If your friend has full blown aids she most likely needs a visiting nurse at the very least. On the other hand people with HIV can now live a very long, healthy life so long as they take proper care of themselves. i.e. medication and regular visits to the doctor.

i'm not so sure as to how long the virus would live if it was on a bandaid. As long as you didn't have a cut on your hand where you touched it (probably not) you shouldn't be infected with it.

and you might want to hint to your friend to pick up those bloody bandaids lying around... just a suggestion :)

I'm not positive how long a virus lives but my you can only get it from touching her bandaid if you had an open wound or anything where her blood could have gotton into you.

Your fine. The hepatitis B virus can live for hours outside the body, the AIDS virus lasts for about 8 seconds!!! Get tested if you're still worried.

I read that the aids virus can live on utensil or plate that the person infected ate of for up to 10 days!
