To anti-atheists, when science develops a cure for AIDs, or the bird flu, or flesh eating bacteria?

Will you accept the cure or declare its not possible because evolution is false? I'm just asking because all these diseases 'evolved' from other viruses and you cannot cure them without an understanding of the process of evolution. If you take the cure you will be a hypocrite but at least you will live...or will you die in stubborn faith?

I care, Kristin B, because what this country needs is more scientists and researchers that can find cures. That means evolution in the class room.

They'll accept the cure, and say it's a miracle from their invisible man in the sky.

Actually, you addressed this to anti-atheists, so I guess it's for anyone who believes in God.

I'm confused....what does the "evolution" of a disease have to do with human beings having no souls - which is the premise of the monkey-to-man idea, isn't it? I mean, I thought the whole idea was that people are just a branch of apes; that we are nothing more than animals, and therefore have no souls. Naturally, anyone who believes in God would not believe that idea. But what does that have to do with one disease mutating into another? Pardon my saying so, but you really don't seem to understand the difference between the two concepts. Your reasoning is just as simplistic as any "fundie" who thinks dinosaur bones were planted by Satan. Please try to have a more open mind; you miss a lot otherwise. God bless.

Human scientific knowledge is too far away from curing these diseases to stop them in time from causing some countries who are dying from them from becoming extinct. The only way these countries will stop their people from becoming extinct is to stop living the way they are living and start following the advanced disease prevention plan for all humans to follow, which are the food and hygiene laws that the God Yahweh wrote out in the book of Leviticus. Simple as that people. Putting your faith in Yahweh will save you starting now. Putting your faith in human scientists will not save you in time.

The 20th century produced by far more science than the sum total of previous human history...and most scientists were atheist or agnostic during that century and this.

So, religious people would have to give up modern life in order to reject the fruits of the work of thousands of non-religious people.

Ray Kurzweil expects that the first 20 years of the 21st century will produce even more science than the entire 20th century. Produced mostly by non-religious people.

The learning curve is steepening. Are religious people ready to face the ramifications of this? Probably not.

oh, capatan,

plz inform me, with that stout wisdom, where AIDS "evolved" from, then where that evolved from, then carry it all the way back to that pond scum and then tell me why only humans evolved and how AIDS is in human immune systems and not the apes.
The essay is due tomorrow.

EXTRA CREDIT: How did those amoebas carry the "life gene" that created the evolution chain? Science has yet to find this answer. Please inform them when you do.

I will celebrate it and Laud their accomplishments. And i will be happy for the people who will benefit. And will will also be happy with my Faith ( Wicca ) and continue to practice it. And continue to work for goodwill on earth.

"It's not evolution! It's a miracle from the lord!"

That's the rationale they'll use; then they'll go back to promoting their voodoo as they have for centuries. They're already hypocrites; giving them a choice between being something they already are, and dying, isn't much of a choice at all.

Being anti-atheist doesn't necessarily mean you don't believe in evolution. Just pointing that out.

I'm a theist, but I believe in evolution. Then again, I'm not anti-atheist either. I avidly support science-- the more we can learn, the better.

what I gather from your question is that you believe that all researchers are atheists? what lab do you work in? because the ones that I have worked in (including the one looking for a vaccine for the avian flu) was made up of a wide variety of non-atheists.

They will claim that it is a miracle of God, that he provided to the scientists.

Religion continuously attempts to steal human achievement and benevolence and hand it to a non existent deity.

You can see it in many of their answers already.

What has anti-atheist got to do with evolution?
Part of the problem I have with people like you is that you can't seem to grasp the fact that the majority of Christians (and other theists) believe in evolution.

What does that have to do with evolution? Are you implying that only atheists are working on these things. Do you ignore the things that theists scientists have discovered?

Fundies' disbelief of the Evolution of bacteria and viruses is a point for "survival of the fittest"....

It would be nice to have a cure for aids since aids was made by man wouldn't it ~sigh~ Of course I would accept for I know God has granted men wisdom to do such things ~

But God created Aids, Bird Flu and Flesh eating bacteria.

Is science the property of atheism, now?

why do you care?

I think you meant to direct this at creationists.
The vast majority of theists accept, understand, and innovate evolutionary sciences.

Jeanmarie: Actually, bacteria have been observed changing their DNA almost entirely to be resistant to treatment. It ain't your "microevolution" just because you see it under a microscope-- hate to break it to you, but that's speciation, sweetiekins.

n9wff: I can't tell if you're joking or not, since what you said is so...easy to answer. The reason aids hasn't been easier to control is because the strains will evolve almost completely and become untreatable-- "killer" strains of aids (ones that can't be treated or prolong life) have an almost entirely different genetic make-up than earlier strains. Also, you do know the similarity of HIV to SIV (Simian immunodeficiency virus) right? So yeah, actually, the same retrovirus found in humans IS found in primates. Also, it's not "just humans" that evolved-- they're the only things that evolved into Homo sapien, for the same reason only dogs evolved into Canis lupus familiaris.

Extra credit: Hmm, I'm going to take a wild guess and say, in the nucleus, with the rest of the amoeba's DNA.

Okay, your question does not make sense at all.
I'm a proud Christian, but I have no hate against "Atheists." But, I strongly disagree with their beliefs and "some" people's hatred toward us Christians. But hey, no one wants to be hated on, right? Anyways, to answer your question, how does finding cures for AIDS, Bird Flu, or Flesh-Eating Bacteria have anything to do with the "Theory" of evolution and the fact that some Christians wouldn't accept it? My question is, why wouldn't they? Many Christians itself suffer from AIDS, the Bird Flu, or Flesh-Eating Bacteria, and many will be utterly happy to know that a cure would be found!
And according to your "stubborn" theory, viruses and diseases "evolved" from bacteria. Of course, most Conservative Christians DO NOT believe this, so I tell you, respect our faith. We believe that God created the Earth and all the living things in it, including HUMANS and BACTERIA which STARTED these viruses and diseases as we know of today as AIDS, Bird Flu, AND Flesh-Eating Bacteria.
Also, you have to understand that "evolution" is still A THEORY. It has never been 100% proven and NEVER WILL. So, who said that you have to have an understanding of the supposed theory of "evolution" to cure diseases of today. It can be cured without this "understanding" that you talk about, sir. You just need a little knowledge, thats all. I am pretty sure that in our lifetime there will not be cures for these diseases, but there is hope for the future!
Also, if I was a victim of a disease that has recently found a cure for, I would go ahead and take it. My God would not hate me if I try to make myself healed through the help of doctors and physicians, because He loves me, and wants me to be better, and if I don't live, thats His plan. I would not look like a hypocrite at all because this will not go against the Christian faith, because it has nothing to do with the THEORY of evolution. However, it will be a TOTALLY different situation if these cures could be found by using embreyos, which I am totally against. Then, I will die in my "good" faith.
And by the way, you are calling out to "Anti-Atheists", well God has told me through the Bible (which is what I believe in, okay good sir?) that you should love one another. So I love all people, no matter what race or religion. Just because you are an atheist, does not mean you have to call out hate toward other religions, especially the one that usually debates with your people, the Christians. I am sure that there are many Christians out there that absolutely HATE you guys, but I will tell you, those people aren't following the Christian faith. So, last but not least, instead of saying our "stubborn" faith, why don't you use terms such as "respected" okay?
Let there be World Peace. Starting from the Atheists to the Christians.
Have a great day sir and God Bless.
=)

A belief in evolution is required to find the cure for AIDS, the bird flu and flesh eating bacteria? And people who don't swallow evolution wholeheartedly are anti-atheist? Wow, you really like to make unsubstantiated claims, don't you? I don't know what my aunt's view on evolution is, but I know she's a devout Catholic who just happens to have her PhD in Microbiology AND who has worked on a vaccine for the AIDS virus. (Her most recent work has been on finding a safer smallpox vaccine.) So please tell me where the hypocrisy is? Personally, I think you're making assumptions based on little or no evidence. Very unscientific of you...

I'm a "fundie". Who says we don't believe in bacteria and viruses?-that's just stupid.
And what would a cure for those diseases have to do with evolution? We understand change we just don't believe species change into other species because of DNA-it can't.

I also have a science degree.

Scientists will cure these diseases when good enlightens them.

how about Uganda the country dedicated itself to the Lord, and AIDS is disappearing

Still waiting. Is it going to take thousands of years.IF SO THEN IT REALLY WILL NOT MATTER TO US AT ALL WILL IT.
