How do you disinfect shoes after you've had plantars warts?

I wore shoes such as flats, heels and sandals and occasionally the band aids would come off. My warts are now all gone...how do I get the virus gone? will i have to buy new shoes?

I'm not sure you ever get rid of plantars warts - at least I never have, not completely, and that's over a period of about 35 years.

However, after many different treatments, my one small plantars wart on my big toe mostly has disappeared, and whenever it comes back I treat it with salicyclic acid patches I buy in the local drugstore. The salicylic acid patches seems to work pretty well.

Wikipedia's article on plantars warts repeats what I've heard doctors say - that plantars warts are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV), and that in many cases "watchful waiting" will eliminate them. The reason is that the body's immune system may mobilize against the wart after a couple of years and kill it, without the doctors having to do anything.

OTOH, if you've had a wart treated in some other way, it may temporarily seem to disappear. But then after some period of time, latent HPV viruses in the healthy skin adjacent to the wart may get activated somehow, and your wart may turn up again.

Wikipedia indicates that salicylic acid works against plantars warts about as well as any other treatment. However, no treatment known seems to be effective against these warts more than 70% of the time.

Wikipedia say treatment with placebos -- with nothing but psychological suggestion -- seems to eliminate warts about 27% of the time. Salicyclic acid is somewhat better than placebos, apparently, and Wikipedia also suggests that you can treat warts with duct tape - don't know if this is a joke or not.

My most effective weapon against warts, I think, involved prayer and religious faith, back when I was more religious than I am now. My success also may have been helped by the fact that I worked as a dishwasher in a dormitory kitchen at the time and kept splashing really hot water on my foot through my sneakers.

For some reason - maybe it was all in my head -- the combination of religious faith and near-boiling water seems to have caused my wart to disappear for many years. Whereas all my previous treatments by physicians had only been successful temporarily.

Maybe my immune system was just ready to do its work.

Wikipedia says you should clean your socks, etc. to fight warts. I think buying new shoes and socks would be good in your case. However, I don't really know.

dont use the shoes,if your foot is wet... that is the one reason you can get that,and stop using band aids...

i was unaware that the virus hung out in shoes. i suppose a spray of lysol will work
