What do you think about the Patient Zero theory? Or the epidemic spread of AID's?

What if Gaetan Dugas wasn't patient zero? Would he still have been the reason for the world wide spread since he was a Flight attendant? Its said that he had over 1200 sex partners a year, it was around the sexual revolution of the 70's, and when he was supposedly told he had the mysterious sex virus he didn't stop having unprotected sex.

I dont think that he STARTED the virus since their were earlier cases of patients that died from aids, but what is the MAIN most accurate theory of how it all would of started, the thoery was dismissed and said to be started from Haiti, Africa but then how did it start from there?.

Mr. Dugas has been incorrectly villified by the public after this ridiculous theory was postulated. He was not in any way shape or form patient zero of the entire HIV epidemic. That has been proven beyond a doubt. Yes, he may have had many sexual partners which definitely put him at risk of acquiring/spreading HIV.....
Many people did not stop having unprotected sex after an HIV diagnosis in the very early years of HIV because we weren't sure how it was spread and the researchers didn't know.

We know that HIV is direct ancestor of SIV (Simian Immunodeficiency Virus) that jumped and mutated from chimpanzees to humans most likely a few times. The "having sex with monkey" theory is most likely not accurate and says more about our racism and homophobia than anything else. Chimpanzees were hunted, butchered, and eaten for food ---- giving many opportunities for chimp blood to infect humans.

Current research suggetss that a successful jump occurred around 1930 give or take a decade. It remained at very low levels in the human family going unnoticed. It wasn't until there was major social change practically simultaneously on two different continents that allowed for HIV to take advantage.

In Africa there were major issues (civil war, migratory workers, poverty, malnourishment, etc that can play a part in increasing HIV infections. In North America, the sexual revolution of the 60's, increase in numbers of sexual partners, get an STI....get a shot of penicillin mentality, and the advent of gay liberation ---- when society hates you for who you love/have sex with, what do you do when you finally are in the position to meet other gay men???? You have lots of sex, and have fun doing it. It of course was absolutely horrible timing.

HIV took advantage of the situations and took off like wildfire. No one is to blame for HIV infection. We are ALL responsible for HIV, and until humanity understands this, the epidemic will never end.
