Explain how the evolution of the AIDS virus is being used to fight the disease.? |
Thank YOU! Inside the body, the HIV virus evolves rapidly, likely as rapidly as it can without rendering most viral particles unable to infect other immune cells. Some research laboratories are experimenting with actually increasing the rate of evolution using mutagenic drugs in order to render most viral particles ineffective, hence preventing the infection from spreading within the patient. It's a fine line, though, because the mutagenic drugs could conceivably induce cancers in the patient's body cells. |
