Atheists, would you be upset if...?

a Christian came up with the cure for the AIDs virus?

I was just wondering. With the way SOME atheists on here talk, it's like no Christian has ever or will ever do anything good for humanity. It can get pretty heated sometimes.

I was just wondering because I've come up with a good idea that I'm going to research deeply. It might take me years, or decades for that matter, but I was curious as to how it might affect the way SOME atheists view Christians as a whole. If a Christian came up with a fantastic cure in a scientific field, do you think it would change some people's point of view?

No. It would be wonderful if we had a cure, and I wouldn't care who it came from.

Hitler (were he still alive, obv) could come up with the cure for AIDS and I'd be happy as long as it was equally available to all who need it.

Atheists, (well, I suppose I should say most, I don't know all of them) don't base their opinion about a person on what their religion is, as long as it's used for personal good and not harm to anyone.

I don't think it would change anyone's opinion of christians. The problem isn't that christians don't do any good, of course they do. The problem is that christianity is so often used as a reason for bigotry and hate. I don't think anything should be used as a "reason" to take away or prevent other people from having rights they deserve.

Good luck with your research. I hope you succeed.

I would be ecstatic!! Just as I would for the cure for any other disease!!

But turn the question around!

Would christians vote a president in who declared that he was atheist but could prove he could bring about not just a cure for aids but also a cure for all diseases within his first term and also stop all wars and bring peace to everyone?

The overwhelming answer from christians seems to be no they would never vote for an atheist!!

Are you kidding? A lot of great scientists, thinkers, and other influential people throughout history who have greatly benefited mankind have been theists, some very devout.

The thing to remember is that they were brilliant minds because they were brilliant minds, not because of whatever faith they had.

Of course not. Why would you ask?

Addendum to additional details:
"SOME atheists on here talk, it's like no Christian has ever or will ever do anything good for humanity" Which atheists are those and what exactly did they say?

Isaac Newton was a Christian as was Galileo. Even Charles Darwin was a Christian at one time in his life. I don't know any atheist who would claim than "no Christian has ever or will ever do anything good".

Many atheists however, myself included, claim that overall Christianity is a bad thing.

If you have some idea to cure aids, well go for it. I wish you nothing but the best of success.

why would anyone?
religion has nothing to do with it.
that's like asking, "white people, would it make you mad if a black person discovered a way to time travel?"
see, it's logic. religion doesn't have any influence on this.

No. This is a weird question.
There's treatment for HIV/AIDS available now anyway - just no cure. The only reason why people die is because they either diagnose it to late, or they live in an African country where they are too poor to buy the medication.

Not at all! Though I wouldn't attribute the success of finding the cure to the leading scientist/medical researcher's personal Christianity.

No, I'd be perfectly happy if anyone came up with a cure for AIDS. It's freaking AIDS, an awful disease that needs to be cured, regardless of religion.

Would I be upset if someone came up with a way to cure people from years of pain, suffering and a terrible death? What kind of question is this, of course not!

wtf why? id thank the christian for helping humanity

Oh yes, it would really anger me if someone came up with a cure for AIDS.
*Sigh*

That's why I donate so much money to fund AIDS research.

Don't be silly. Why would I care who comes up with a medical or technological advance?

Not at all, that would benefit humanity, why should I be upset?

Not unless he/she didn't give it to those who needed it.

Not a bit. It would show they did more than pray.

Of course I would not mind at all. Still, what are the odds? Not very high.

No.

Are there any good reasons for being upset?

Why would that upset me?

no? why would his religion even matter, an aids virus would help millions of people,

Not this atheist.

Why would I be upset? I'd throw a party!

no, i don't hate christians i just hate bigots.

why would i care, then i could have wild sex in africa without having to worry

fine by me--a
