Is it likely that a virus will spread across the globe and create a worldwide epidemic within your lifetime?

Does AIDS count? I think it doesnt because its somewhat under control and there are places its not but it isn't out of Control in EVERY part of the world.

Possible, absolutely. Likely? Well, probably not.
There was a really interesting film from the History Channel called "The Next Plague" (it's available on netflix instant watch if you happen to be a subscriber) that described the how and why it could happen using the avian flu as topic. It was really interesting.
