Is it likely that a virus will spread across the globe and create a worldwide epidemic within your litfetime?

Does AIDS count? I think it doesn't because its somewhat under control and there are places its not but it isn't out of Control in EVERY part of the world. Why do you think its possible or not? Any webs that can help?

If you believe the book of revelations in the Bible, in the last days much of the population is going to be wiped out by a series of disasters, man made and otherwise.

For instance, four of the seven seal judgments will be riders on horse back that will have the power to cause wars, famines, and pestilence! It's interesting though that after the horseman comes on a white horse conquering first in the name of "peace" a horseman follows bringing war and death. After the horseman comes bringing regulation of food, comes a horseman that brings death by the sword and by hunger...

As to disease, AIDS is one of the few diseases in history where the inmates are called on to make the regulations governing its control! In all other outbreaks of diseases in history, those with the disease were ostracized from society or quarantined. Now it seems that any one with HIV/AIDS is to be coddled! There is still no cure for viruses! They can only be allowed to run their course. HIV was no cure, and probably never will be cured! Running its course usually ends in death! yet, those who have it are left to run loose with it!

There are people who try to infect others intentionally! There are the occasional news stories of people charged with assault or attempted murder because they had knowingly engaged in sexual encounters while infected! Not only that, but the homosexual community will often use public funds intended for AIDS awareness for promoting the homosexual lifestyle instead!

There are three major risk factors associated with catching the disease: Engaging in homosexual sexual practices, engaging in promiscuous heterosexual sex practices, and those who engage in intraveinous drug use.

Consider this frightful statistic, among AIDS victims in one study, each had an average of 1,100 sexual partners in the course of their life! Some as many as 20,000! Out of that group, only 3% of homosexuals studied had less than 10 sexual partners in their lifetime!

Another thing to consider is the fact that condoms don't stop the spread of the HIV bug! There was one study that noted that amongst a segment of prostitutes in Africa, these women were still contracting the AIDS virus even though they used condoms. Those who used condoms with spermicide contracted the disease in even greater quantities than those who didn't!

So here is the thing to consider in regards to your question. Would AIDS become the world wide epidemic/pandemic that would wipe out the populations of the world? Only in so much as societies turn away from traditional families and traditional committed sexual relationships do they become a breeding ground for the AIDS virus! If people engage in sexual relations with just anybody and engage in IV drug use, then of course HIV would be on the rise and can become pandemic.

If a man stays with the virgin wife of his youth, and does not use drugs, then he will likely live to a ripe old age, at least when it comes to HIV. If countries of the world would embrace traditional values instead of placating the virtuless, then there would be less to fear from AIDS.

I think you mean pandemic. An epidemic is an unexpected increase in the number of cases, which need not be a large number. For instance, there was a measles epidemic in the midwest a few years ago (about 80 cases) associated with media exposure of the potential link between the MMR vaccine and autism. 80, while not seeming like much, was a huge increase in an otherwise very rare disease.

To answer your question, the spread of HIV is in varying degrees of control from somewhat to not-at-all. So I would consider HIV to be a pandemic in the loose sense of the word.

The classical threat of a pandemic would be a highly infectious, high mortality rate version of influenza, similar to the 1912 pandemic. Scientists believe that the most likely source of a flu pandemic would be the much storied avian flu.

It's possible but I'm not sure about how likely. As we destroy our rain forests we are finding viruses the human race has never heard or seen before. The rain forest is the natural habitat to those who carry the viruses and as we deplete the rain forest the viruses spread along with the animals but more so bugs who carry them. It's likely if there was to be a huge epidemic the Bible would mention it, but I haven't been doing enough reading about end times. However, if you look at what the Bible has to say about the end times it is all coming into play now. In case you plan to ignore everything I said after the word Bible the first part I learned in my biology class.

I dont think AIDS counts its more like "the plague." Its possible that foreign countries can set diseases and epidemics that are uncurable within the next decade.
