Alcohol: crosses and can cause Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
Cocaine: can cross the placenta and cause many developmental problems (ADHD, premature birth etc).
AIDS virus: can cross and cause the child to be HIV+ (drugs are now given to women who are HIV+ to prevent this)
Nicotine: crosses the placenta and prevents the transport of oxygen for the fetus (increases fetal heart rate), can cause developmental disabilities (reading/language problems)

C...aids is a blood disease and mother and child do not share blood through the placenta but the drugs can be diffused through the placenta. the only way the child could get aids from its mother is through breast milk after birth.. and children don't have the exact bloodtype as their mother b/c its a mix of mother and father's.
