Is AIDS a disease, or virus. What do doctors classify it as?

its a virus,, not a desease,, my understanding of a desease, is something that is contagious throught air, skin contact ,but you cannot get it from another persons blood, or from intercourse,,a virus on the other hand has to be contracted through a host's blood or genes, during intercourse, or blood sharing,, at least thats my assumption
