COMPILATION OF ALL THE CORRECT ANSWERS FROM THE 2009 NYS LIVING ENVIRONMENT / BIOLOGY REGENTS?

There are a lot of posts regarding todays regents.. instead of having to read a bunch of the answers, please put them all in one place- here =]

Multiple Choice
- The forest community was likely to remain stable for a long period of time
-The puppies were a result of gene recombination and sorting
- Dolly had DNA identical to sheep A
- The bacteria ques. (in which 95% died): future generations reproduce asexually and are more resistant
-The arrows indicated energy lost as heat
- The toad and the hawk were the carnivores
-The competitors were the squirrels and chipmunk that ate seeds
- (Biotic factore using an abiotic factor)The tree uses water for a raw material of photosynthesis
-Organism A (the plant) had the most energy
- The order of development went zygote>tissue>organs>fetus
- The order of the protein ques. was dna (? i think that was the other choice)>amino acids>protein shape> protein function
- For genetic engineering you identify gene>remove gene> insert gene into bacterium> extract enzyme
- The arrows in that wierd question would be called "leads to"
- The fox changed to adapt (choice 2)
- The thing on the cell membrane that receive chemical messages were receptors indicated by B, I believe
- The diagram of a cell shows mitochondria (structure 3?) which would produce the most ATP/ energy
-Identical twins look different b/c the environment affects gene expression

-You can infer from the cladogram that many of species B's descendents became extinct
-The owl pellets tell you about its role in the ecosystem
- Chromosomes are made up of DNA (choice 2)
- AIDS virus= targets cells that allow you to fight diseases
- If carnivores are removed from an ecosystem, it becomes unstable
-For evolution you need fast reproduction and an unstable environment

Other:
-Average was resting pulse rate was 73
- Increased validity would result by performing the activity several more times
- The body produces antibodies
-Graph was 40% for highest amount of "D"
-Least glucose for group 3
- Z was the most similar for gel electrophoresis
-The plants were the highest in the water b/c of light intensity
-The enzyme question was digestion i believe?
-The change in the avian flu would be due to mutation
- Wind energy would be beneficial b/c less polution and you are using a renewable resource
- For the chemical I said sulfuric acid harms the environment

I can't remember anything else? Please correct me if I'm wrong w/ any of these and add on!

Edit:
I鈥檓 glad everyone鈥檚 finding this useful! I really want to point out that these are just my answers and I鈥檓 no genius so please feel free to question any of my choices鈥?br> Morgan: Do you know which mc ques. it was? I could always be wrong
鈥淚 can鈥檛 feel my face鈥?(haha): This was a question which I saw a possibility in another one of the choices but I think this choice answered the question best and was also the most accurate鈥?did you think it was the choice with fungi and oxygen?
Kate, abe, and Steve: Great job!
Vicky and Kevo: I鈥檓 sure you鈥檙e over exaggerating... if you鈥檙e smart enough to take the initiative to check your answers, you must be very bright =]
Geeezy: I said Purple Loosestrife because they compete with other native species of plants鈥?a wide variety of answers are acceptable for that question.
I am positive that the plant had the most energy. Remember, as you go up the food pyramid, energy is lost as heat so therefore the most energy would be located at the base.

I believe it will receive credit...I got 2 wrong also : the dog one I put overproduction and selective breeding and the chromosome I put had 100s of identical DNA

Can someone tell me if my answer for the chromatography error would be acceptable...
I said "The pigment mixture spot isn't in the correct location."

Also for filling out the food web: the answer key on jmap.org just wrote deer in one spot..will I lose credit for putting white tailed deer?

thanks...

Excellent compilation. I got all of your answers except this one: "The enzyme question was digestion i believe?" I picked choice 4 for that one where it said that the enzyme will bond to the water, which is wrong. Other than that, looks very good

what did you put for the foreign species...i put zebra mussels and how they carry cancer causing chemicals.....and also the pollutant question with harming the environment and are you sure the plant had the most energy?

for the question that showed the black and white puppies did anyone put choice 1- overproduction and selective breeding because they were trying to get a different colored puppy so they did selective breeding and the dogs overproduce since some of their puppies die in birth

i didnt read the additional stuff maybe some1 alredy said this but i think the bacteria 1(#4 on ur list) was that the reproduced asexually but they werent more resistent, bec it was asexually. For 55 i wrote something like horses were brought to america, i literally had no idea wat they wanted but some1 told me it was something like bringing toads to australia
Thx alot btw.

i think the one about the avian flu question was "what would happen if the gene mutated" or something like that
i put (to be blunt) "world-wide epidemic" lmao

if i wrote for 55, wolves were reintroduced into the Appalachian mountains where there already were coyotes and there was competition and the coyotes decreased in population- would i get credit?

Nice! I got all of the same answers as you, I think (except for the chemical and one of the questions i don't remember what i put)
:)

ATTENTION: THE CHROMATOGRAPHY ANSWER IS: The error was that the dot has to be above the water, instead of being submerged in it.

thanks alot man r u sure about (Biotic factore using an abiotic factor)The tree uses water for a raw material of photosynthesis

for the chromatography question there are at least two answers that I know are correct:
-stopper on the test tube
-pigment marking must be above solvent line
If you had either one, you will get credit :)

If these are majority the correct answers, i really ****** up on this test.

For the error of the chromatography is it that the stopper was off?

SOOOO, wait then could one of the problem of the chromtography setup was that the stopper was on? plZZZ ans

Thank you Sam i love you!i put the same answers but i don't remember about the question about the avian flu>

OOO i did good I think that the puppies one is overproduction...
and what did someone get for the CO2 MC which was # 29, and there was a graph

This was so goodd.
i totally passed!!!
...i had trouble with filling in the web!
also does anyone know when we can look up the key on the internet??

OMG! i got 1 MC wrong and like 1 short answer wrong. i'm so happyyy!!

you remembered a lot! haha
i got a lot wrongg. ahh i think im gonna get in the 70s but atleast i didnt fail.

hey i got most of these!

EDIT: Aren't DNA in the chromosomes? And so are genes?
anyway 1 point aint gonna kill me

i missed about 35% on the multiple choice, damn.

I know my grade.I got a 91. I'm so HAPPPPPPPPyyyyyy

Hey for the question about humans releasing chemicals in athmosphere: Is it possible to say that burning fossil fuels releases co2 and other harmful green house gases to the atmosphre thus causing global warming? Or is it wrong because it was a 5pt quetion =/ Please answer in additional details

My friend said its not a chemical it is a gas, but I guess it depends on my grader cause in reality
A chemical is material produced by or used in a reaction involving changes in atoms or molecules

YES they accept it

Answers guys:

http://www.jmap.org/JMAP/IJMAP/LivingEnv...

I have a question
The question asked "Identify one event that could result in the virus changing to a form able to spread from human to human"
I put an epidemic for that, the correct answer is mutation... but would the phrasing they used be right for an epidemic also?

i got most of the Mc right...but imm just worreid about the short answers...i have a feeling i got all of them wrong....for the bird and finches..i wrote they are the same species...which is wrong i guess...and the chemicals i wrote pesticide.and the balance of ecosystem. importing species would bring more biodiversity..and can disrupt food chain...the average for the pulse rate i got that wrong...and the organ i put was heart....o.o im going to fail

heyy guys so i got a 100 and most answers i see here are correct, the answer to the dogs is recombination
oh and i love that all the questions are on one page, it gets confusing when there are so many..hope u guys did well

I would also like to inform everyone that carbon dioxide IS a chemical, all matter is made of chemicals:)

i got most of these right, i completely guessed on the paper chromatography b/c i wasnt so sure i put that the pigment mixture dot isnt suppose to be in the water, it should be above it.
The dichotomous key screwed me over. i kind of blanked out on that one.
For the question of the order with development i put ygote>tissue>organs>fetus , b/c i knew a zygote was when a sperm and an egg combine you can say, so i figured the fetus would be the ending result.
As for the Avian Flu question i put in order for it to be spread from human to human it would have to be airborne, but now that i think about it a mutation makes sense, so idk =/
For number 55 i believe it was , about the foreign species i put that if a red tailed hawk would be brought into a ecosystem containing chipmunks, it would through everything out of order since the hawk is the natural predator of the chipmunk, and then those animals dependent on the chipmunks would decrease in population as well as the chipmunks. i doubt its right, i went back to that question and just put whatever i could think of.
and for the Wind mill passage i put the 2 benefical effects would be it uses energy in a healthier manner and it can power 30,000 homes, im not to sure about that one.

i really hope i got a good grade, or passed to say the least i REALLY dont want to retake it in August. -_-

For the Dichotomous key, I put:

A. If legs are present...Spider
If no legs are present...worm
B. If legs are present...Dog
If no legs are present..fish

If that is wrong, how many points would I have taken off of it?

I need to get at least a 90, and from all your answers. Seems I got about 5 points taken off. What grade would that be with the curve? THANK YOU SO MUCH

For the bacteria question, I put future generation reproduce asexually and are just as susceptible. If an organism produces asexually, then its offspring are identical. If the offspring are identical to the parent, why would it be more resistant?

Idfk, not sure. But thats my reasoning.

also what did you guys put for the first question in the writing section that asked wat the effect of seaweed had on the population and oxygen..i odnt remember the exact question tho

OMG the paper chromatography test tube question and the put the data in the columns question. What was the error with the picture and what did u have to pt in those columns??? those were easily the dumbest questions on that test :/
