Why do doctors seldom get sick?

Why do doctors seldom get sick even though they see and treat sick people everyday? Does constant and prolonged exposure to bacteria and virus aid in the body's development of better and more resilient anti-bodies?

Your theory of repeated exposure may have some merit. Most of us get the flu shot annually. I got the adult pneumococcal vaccine for my 60th birthday. (Woulda rather had a cake!) Also, we learn to rapidly turn away from sneezes and coughs, but that may be more psychological benefit to us. And we do wash our hands a lot.

Unfortunately, we do get sick, in spite of the above precautions.

I would say that being exposed to many germs on a daily basis helps medical professionals to build up immunities. They get flu and pneumonia immunizations as well. Also they practice good hand washing, which is the key for everyone.
