What happens to people when they have the AIDS virus? Do they suffer from mental illness?

My Aunt has AIDS and she was recently ammited in the mental hospital. Do people with AIDS develop metal problems? I'm not sure what she is going through because she lives in a different state (Mississippi and I live in Florida). I was never allowed around her after she caught the diease. She caught it from sleeping around(prostituting for crack) but she isn't like that anymore. She changed her ways along time ago. I'm kinda worried. My mom won't tell me why she was amitted.

HIV (the virus that causes AIDS) can cause memory problems and other problems, depending on the location that the virus infects in the brain. The brain is not effected in every person who has HIV.

Mental illness: Your aunt may also be suffering from severe depression or anxiety due to the fact that she has AIDS.

HIV is transmitted by unprotected sex with someone who has HIV, sharing needles for drug use with someone who has HIV, or it can be transmitted from a woman to her child during pregnancy, delivery or breast feeding.

HIV is NOT transmitted by saliva or casual contact. You can touch, hug, or even kiss your aunt without risk of transmission.

Your mother may have thought that the disease was transmitted by casual contact, or she may have thought you were too young to deal with it at the time. Other than that, I can not think of any reason your mother would have prevented you from seeing your aunt.
