Hi Album,
Living in the world of HIV/AIDS is very much like being in the Twilight Zone...At least thats how I found it to be....Nothing ever seems to make any sense. I don't wish to sound insensitive but it may surprise you to know that the LEADING cause of death of HIV positive people who are taking Meds is LIVER FAILURE. http://www.aidsmap.com/en/news/FAD25D8B-...

You wont ever be told this information by your doctors. You have to go find this information out for yourself. I have no doubt that I'll be condemned for telling you this by other posters on this question, however I don't care. You and every one else has a right to know every thing there is to know so you can make informed choices.
NEVER STOP QUESTIONING, especially when it comes to medicine...Take a good look at the following Google DVD..Good luck

Here's a great site where you can ask your question. HIV doctors respond back to you. From what i understand, there are a very few people who can not get HIV/AIDS. Something to do with there immune systems. I can't remember where I read this.

Here's one story where they talk about immunity.

HIV/AIDS is only assumed to be sexually transmitted. The sexual transmision of HIV/AIDS has NEVER been proven.

Check out the following article-

Is HIV a Sexually-Transmitted Virus?
http://liam.gnn.tv/articles/1972/Is_HIV_...

The 10-year Padian study (1997), observed sexually active couples in which one partner was HIV positive. The result: In 10 years, not one uninfected partner contracted HIV, even though all participants admitted to having sex without condoms.

Re: the above answer:

Nancy Paidan has had some sharp words about people who misuse her study to argue that HIV is not sexually transmitted:

"In short, the evidence for the sexual transmission of HIV is well documented, conclusive, and based on the standard, uncontroversial methods and practices of medical science.Individuals who cite the 1997 Padian et al. publication (1) or data from other studies by our research group in an attempt to substantiate the myth that HIV is not transmitted sexually are ill informed, at best. Their misuse of these results is misleading, irresponsible, and potentially injurious to the public."

Some individuals - including the HIV negative partners of people infected with HIV - develop HIV-specific immunity, which is associated with protection against infection. HIV-specific T cells seem particularly important in this immune protection. HIV vaccines that are currently being studied to see if they can prevent HIV infection are designed to induce of HIV-specific T cell responses.

A certain portion of the population CANNOT get aids. They have a mutant gene as part of their genetic make up. These are the ancestors of people from Europe who had survived the black plague of centries ago.

Seems that certain ancestors of the survivors cannot get the AIDS virus. This was discovered about 15 years ago in a Gay Community of SanFrancisco when it was observed that certain partners of Gay men never got AIDS even though they were for certain exposed to the virus.

On a possible development of an aitibody to combat the disease. Well, this has never ever been the case. No body has ever developed an immunity to this AIDS virus. No such thing around.

And the test for AIDS is one in which certain antibodies show up in the blood stream. That is the general method of testing. However, these antibodies do not stop the progression of the disease.

Yes, people who are on medicines are dying of liver problems beacuse they are LIVING LONGER. They usually have Hepatitis c or b and before AIDS would have killed them, but now they live for 30 years or more so Hepatitis C or B can give them cirrhosis. (So, this is only if you have hepb or C). The meds carry liver complications ( a few of them) but in only a low percentage of patients. nowadays, your brother could take meds and live a normal life. even if he is very resistant to meds, there are new meds that can save his life. Some people can't get HIv, it's a small percentage. The transmission of HIv is not 100% and probably your brother uses condoms most of the time. If he's not, he should start doing it. Because the transmission may happen any day.
I've seen it happen way too many times.
