The poorest people of the Phillipines ( 80% of which are Catholic ) are pushed deeper into the mire by the Catholic churches refusal to allow the use of condoms. In their stupidity and refusal to admit their entrenchment, this so called bastion of Christianity subjects millions of uneducated people to the AIDS virus and unwanted pregnancy daily.
On top of that Abotion is not possible due to this evil institutions stance on it. The same goes for Catholic Africa too.
This 2000 year old Dogma is nothing short of criminal given our knowledge of the Virus's transmittal and families living on less than a dollar a day cannot support 10/12 children. Vimesfan01 I agree with you in the case of educated well informed people, make your own choice. But these are vulnerable superstitious people under the influence of the religion. And there is no packet with health warnings from the catholic church. I'm an ex-Catholic, went to Catholic church school from grades 4-7 and I think your description is accurate: Uncaring & Evil. I would add hateful and arrogant and sanctimonius and hostile. In my experience the Catholic church is all about dogma and legalism and dictatorship. Between myself and a handful of family members I've known the Catholic church to do far far more harm than good. I wish people would leave it alone and let it die a natural death. The Catholic church doesn't deserve to exist. That's only because of who is running the show these days Report It
I see the Catholic church as the same as Tobacco companies.
The people have a choice. Blah, blah blah blah.
Yes, let's hand out condoms to everyone! Free condoms! Condoms will save the world!! Because everyone know that condoms are 100% effective in both preventing pregnancies and STDs, so if only we'd just use condoms then everything would be a-ok and we could all hump like bunnies. Whoever and whenever and wherever we wanted, woo hoo!!!
It's just so HARD to ask people to keep their legs closed and their pants zipped, isn't it? I mean, it's not like millions of people have died virgins or something. I mean really, sex is all we've got, right? There is nothing else to life. I've got my qualms with it, which is part of the reason I walked away from it; my mom is Catholic and my dad was Protestant but converted to Catholicism in my teens (I was raised protestant and then had the rug pulled out from under me). I can't really say too much, I've never lived in the Phillipines, so don't really know what its like for them. I do wonder about the choices that people make? I would hate to assume that they are stupid enough to let others tell them what to do all the time, we all have a choice. I would rather die than have this stuff shoved down my throat. The Catholic church is black and white: abstinence or marriage is the only way.
If you're going to sleep around before being married, you're already commiting a sin that the church condemns, so since people already are commiting one sin I don't know why they don't just commit the other sin of using contraception. You can't save those that don't want to change.
People aren't forced into religion, they find solace in the community and take the good with the bad. I'm sure if you used those same words to describe the Catholic Church in the Phillipines you would be chased out of the country. i am a catholic and so are my family. the thing is just because i am catholic does not mean that i am a strict one. i too agree with you that catholics should have a choice which is why i choose to live the way i do after all we were all granted free will were we not? i use condoms and the reason i do this is so that i dont fall pregnant with a baby that i do not want They've done far worse. That's nothing compared to the Crusades and their silence and apathy during the Holocaust.
edit: I'm sorry, didn't know the Nazis were out tonight. You dont know what youre talking about. The government in the Philippines have been distributing condoms to couples in rural areas to prevent overpopulation. U.S.A. and other nations are having difficulty too with their economy with big debts too. You have a problem with Catholicism and Catholic people? Yeah, i am positive you do...
Well no more IF's. It is 2008 and condoms are available everywhere. There are people all over the world who have gotten Aids because of ignorance, stubborness or by accident. AIDS and unwanted pregrancy are general problems of the WHOLE world, FYI. If I lived in a country rife with aids and didnt have a condom.I would be more responsible about my sexual behaviour.
People shouldnt depend on governments or the church to control their lives. We should be responsible for ourselves.
Probably no other body has given more to the poor, diseased and war stricken peoples of this world than the christian church.
If you or anyone else finds that the RC church doesnt meet your values then you dont have to comply with its teachings. You could always sign up to a religion that say...routinely disrespects and beats women, plants bombs on trains, chops off limbs etc.
The church does NOT subject anyone to any diseases. The diseaase is already there.Condoms are incompatible with the teachings of RC.Its just how it is.Changing the dogma defeats the principles. It would no longer exist as catholicism. They subject themselves to AIDS by having sex out of marriage. Did you know that, statistically speaking, abstinence programs are far more effective in preventing the spread of AIDS than programs whose goal is to provide condoms for all? Abstinence programs have been implemented in certain areas in Africa, and in those areas, AIDS have pretty much completely ceased to spread already.
Abstaining works. If YOU choose not to listen to the advice to abstain, then it is YOUR fault if you get AIDS or something else. Blaming the Catholic church for this is akin to blaming teachers for students going on a shooting spree in their schools.
You don't want AIDS? Don't have sex. You don't want more kids than you can take care of ? Don't have sex. It's not that hard to do. Don't blame Catholics because someone else gave into temptation. Some people are making this whole abstinence thing sound so easy, but in some countries women are not as in control of their lives as they could or should be and the choice not to have sex is not always an easy option - why should they be made to suffer for a belief that they hold dear to them yet is flawed beyond measure? oh so they should be allowed to use condoms and if the condom breaks, there's abortion anyway. very convenient.
calling other people stupid won't make you appear smart. in the end, people will judge your intelligence basing on your arguments. this post you have posted is not even an argument, but rather a rant borne of ignorance. If You do the research from Vatican 2 onwards and look to see how the power was manipulated away from the Mass into the hands of corrupted "People"
It is then easy to see how all this came about and also where it is all leading to
May this help

To destroy a Religion You first have to sever it's traditions At the end of the day people make their own choices.
Your comments are offensive and display real ignorance on your part. The Catholic Church is not an evil institution and does a tremendous amount of good work in many third world countries. However, I do agree with you that the spread of AIDS is a real cause for concern, but it is not the Catholic Church subjecting millions of people to the AIDS virus, although admittedly, the anti condom principle certainly doesn't help.
I feel that your comments are over zealous and extremeley biased, although, in amongst all your hatred and short sightedness you have highlighted the fact that there is a major problem with AIDS and unwanted pregnancy.
The way forward is to educate not point the finger of blame. Had the Catholic Church never existed, would these people living in poverty ever have used condoms. Probably not.
Step down from your high horse. The Catholic church is rotten through and through. They concealed child molesters and rapists for years and are still concealing them to this day.
The Irish RC Cardinal is currently suing the Irish RC arch-bishop to stop him from presenting over 5000 statements and documents relating to paedophilia to a specially commissioned investigation team (who were set up to investigate the profound amount of sex offences by RC priests). They are STILL hiding the truth and harbouring the offenders. The Vatican are all for concealing the truth also, they want to brush it all under the mat.
Evil is not the word........ If it was'nt for the sacrifices made by the catholic church and its members most of the western world would be praying five times a day facing mecca.
Why is one is allowed to kill an infant in the womb when killing the same child a few minutes later outside the womb can bring on a life sentence ? Genesis 1:28 - They (Abrahamic Religions - Christian, Muslim & Jew) want to overpopulate the Planet & Subdue it (i.e. Bring the Planet to its knees)...
Religion is the enemy of the Planet...
If we save thousands of Children in Africa, and then they have thousands of Children, and then they have thousands of Children, what are we going to do when the Earth runs out of Space???
Population should be controlled, and the worlds people better SEX educated... (F**K Bono & Geldof, as they are just sustaining Africa's problems) The Catholic Church can never justify sin. It does not have the right. It is God's teaching the church promotes...not man's. The Church has no power to change God's teaching.
For the Catholic church to deny God's teaching and condone using condoms in the Philippines, would open a flood gate in the Catholic world, that could never be closed. The Church cannot, and will not, ever promote condom use. To do so would be saying it's okay to have sex outside of marriage, and it's okay to have sex that is not open to life. The Church cannot say that because both of these things are sins.
Just like the Church can never accept or promote abortion, no matter what the circumstances. Trying to undo the effects of sin by committing more sin has never been God's message to us. We are all called away from sin, this is a knowledge these people in the Philippines know if they go to church or read the Bible at all. Sin has consequences which the Church has no control over and the effects of sin fall on all of humanity...not the Catholic Church.
No to mention you have your facts wrong:
Despite government restrictions, private companies and UN-funded international NGO鈥檚 have been pushing condoms into the country. In 2004 alone, DKT, a private organization run by a well-known US pornographer, with the support of the Packard Foundation, distributed 27.8 million condoms as well as chemical abortifacients and contraceptives.
Thailand and the Philippines started seeing AIDS cases in the same year: 1984. That year, Thailand launched its 鈥?00% Condom Use Program鈥?that saw condom vending machines in legal brothels, supermarkets, bars and most public places. The Philippines, however, resisted the imposition of condoms the following year and turned to promotion of abstinence.
In 1999 the UNAIDS reported 755,000 total confirmed cases of HIV infection in Thailand with 65,000 dead of the disease. That same year, in the Philippines, the total number of HIV cases was only 1,005. The disease had killed only 225 people.
As of August 2003 there were 899,000 HIV/AIDS cases documented in Thailand and approximately 125,000 deaths attributed to the disease. In the Philippines, as of September 30, 2003, there were 1,946 AIDS cases resulting in 260 deaths.
http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2006/feb/060... To answer your question: the RCC is neither uncaring nor evil. The RCC does an awful amount of good works throughout the entire world, which you can see for yourself if you want to.
You obviously haven't checked out the reasons why contraception and abortion are evil in the real Catholics' eyes.
The RCC hasn't been around for 2000 yrs by caving in to popular opinion or changing its' precepts to make it more user friendly Let's do the math, shall we?
The World Health Organization, which is pro-condom, says that condoms are 90% effective in stopping the spread of HIV. Let's give condoms the benefit of the doubt and say they are 95% effective.
Now, taking all the people in the Phillipines who are going to have sex this week, lets say 100 of them are going to have sex with HIV-infected partners. That's probably a low number, but it makes the math easier. Let's give those 100 people condoms. Only 5 of them will actually contract HIV.
Suppose these folks are only having sex once a week. Okay, that might be low, but this is all hypothetical anyway. Give your 95 survivors condoms and now only 4 of them will contract HIV. Next week, you have 91 survivors, and only four of *them* will get HIV. So in the third week, you have 87 people, and only 4 of them will get HIV. Week four, only 4 out of your 83 will get HIV. Week five, we're down to three out of 79. You start out week six with 76, week seven with 73, week 8 with 70, week 9 with 67, week 10 with 64, week 11 with 61, and week 12 with 58. Week thirteen starts with 56 and sees two more fall, so by the end of the first quarter, your condoms have only managed to protect 54 people from HIV.
So hooray for them, but it kinda sucks for the 46 people who trusted your condoms. If the 54 people continue to put their lives on the line with condoms that fail at a 95% rate (remember, that's better than the WHO estimate), it'll only take 15 weeks total to infect *HALF* the people who are having sex with HIV+ partners and trusting condoms to protect them.
Now compare it to what the Catholic Church teaches: Stay a virgin until marriage, don't do recreational drugs, marry a virgin and stay faithful in marriage. Odds of getting HIV: 1 in 1,000,000,000,000,000. Maybe a little better than that, even.
You want to talk "nothing short of criminal" now, in light of the MATH?
As for the families that cannot support 10/12 kids, nobody is saying they have to have 10/12 kids, first of all. Married couples are allowed to use periodic abstinence to avoid intercourse when the wife is fertile (women aren't fertile every day of the month, in case you didn't know that), and thanks to modern scientific discoveries, it's really a lot easier to teach women how to read their individual body's unique signs of ovulation. Even the poorest of the poor can do that, because it's free, and fertility awareness equals or beats a condom's odds at preventing pregnancy. HOW CAN YOU EVEN SAY THAT !!
I'm a priest and I'm more than caring............... Just ask the Choir Boys as I'm stroking their Hair............. you may see here people saying how easy it is to keep your legs together when you live in poverty. they have got no idea how it feels like. they think if they were raised without a TV, they already think they know what poverty is. they dont know anything. they dont respect sexuality. they think if you can do plenty of other happy things, they already think how mature they are about sex. yeah right.
yes, the sex and love is all what you have when you live in poverty. what else would you do? there's nothing else to do, you work then you come home and you cook & eat and later you are bored, lying in that hammock or whatever they have there. what else can you do all day there? work is done, there's no entertainment. if there would be god, he wouldnt make humans so "naughty", or he should do more chemistry lessons next time when he decides to make another race, cause he gave waaaaaaay too much hormones to humans.
religions arent good, they dont change while the law changes all the time. the judges and politicians knows that people wont stop having sex, so they start making major campaigns for condoms, something against STD's and unwanted pregnancy, while religions wont change and they make this world backward and worse than it already is. look at netherlands, more than 40% of teenage girls are on birth control pills and they dont have that much problems with unwanted pregnancies.
religious nation = too many things are forbidden which leads to more problems.
less religious nation = freedom to choose and explore the best way to solve the problems. humans have emotions if they have a religion or not and because they have emotions, this world wouldnt be worse without religions. it would be the same.
religions keeps forbidding things, but smart people will educate others WHY are things forbidden. its in human nature to rebel when they dont like something, so forbidding things wont help, it will create only a bigger desire for that forbidden thing. and its really sad when they say how "good" the catholic church is, but its hidding child abuse among priests. yeah right, its so good. they let priests to destroy young lives and they even protect them from prosecution. its not about revenge, if they are behind bars, they cant ruin more young lives.
catholic church failed at saving the world. even atheists are better. |
