Autoclave issue?

The autoclave at my shop is currently out of commision. I asked a doctor in my family if anything would have the same effect, and she said that at the hospital where she works they have before boiled their instruments in water to very high temperatures and then sterilized them with alchohol. That is what I did today and will as of now continue to do until the new autoclave comes in. Has anyone else heard that doing this is strong enough to kill the AIDS virus? Also, what's the incubation period for AIDS?

Although I'm not certain on the exact incubation period of AIDS in dried vs fresh blood, I do know that neither boiling nor alcohol will kill it.

Hepatitis can live in dried blood up to two weeks under certain conditions. Neither boiling nor alcohol will kill it either.

You can check with local medical supply shops to see if they have loaner or rental equipment in cases of breakdowns. If not, hit ebay for a used autoclave (make sure they have current spore testing results with it) to keep you in business in the meantime. Otherwise, take a loss and wait until you either get a new piece of equipment or get yours repaired.

check and see what temp they have to be heated to. boiling water only goes up to 212. that may not be hot enough.

So your telling me that your using boiled piercing equipment and jewellery, and cleaning with alcohol? Im sorry but thats not acceptable, your breaking the skin and inserting unsterile jewellery and traces of alcohol, that can slow the healing period and cause rritation.
I suggest stopping it right now, lose a bit of cash, rather than harm any reputation you may have from bad piercing work.
