I'm HIV + and have recently stopped taking anti-retrovirals.....?

Upon the advice of my doctor I have stopped taking anti-retrovirals. At the time my viral load was 140k and mt CD4 was 570. Was this a good move on my part ?

only you and your Dr can answer that.

Well, as someone else mentioned only you and your doctor can discuss this but I would have thought that being on antiviral meds were good but anyway, you need to keep your immune system strong by getting plenty of regular exercise (heart rate up) and by eating the best you can. I wish you well and hope all goes well for you. Wish there was a cure for HIV positive and AIDS but as we know there isn't. I am not HIV positive but I've known a couple of people who are. I'm one of those oddballs who believes that our body talks to us and we should pay attention. We know, before anyone else, what's going on with it. Although others may not understand, whatever decisions we make will usually be what is best for us. Sometimes the medicine can seem to be worse than the illness.

Well that really depends on what your previous viral load number was, but your CD4 count is within normal range.
Your doctor is familiar with your case history and your overall health status, so if he/she advised you to go off the anti-retroviral drugs I would not be concerned, however if you do have concerns you should always feel free to discuss them with your doctor and he/she can fully explain the reasoning behind the advice you were given.

hi hun.....it must be a very difficult decison to make, i can only asume the doctor has stopped u taking these meds cause they were not agreeing with u and have caused u more problems ie ur cd4 count has lowered etc. Have u asked your doctor about the effects it will have on ur health not taking the meds? is there a subitute??...and it might be an idea to speak to a nutritionist who can guide u on the correct foods to eat to maintain a healthy body. Like the other reader said u might want to get a second opionon if u r indoubt as this is an important decison to make and deserve to have all the answers infront of u b4 u make it. i hope it helps, take care meow!

you are supposed to keep taking them until your viral load is undetectable ( below 50) you have a good cd4 count tho! my cd4 is 184 and viral load is 20,000. I havent started the meds yet coz i know i wont stick to it! you will become immune to the meds and therefore have less choice with what meds you can take!! But its not uncommon coz the side effects suck!
