How does HIV(AIDS) affect a woman who is nursing a baby?

How does HIV(AIDS) affect a woman who is nursing a baby?

breast feeding in the hiv positive mother is a contraversial issue.so also the risk of feeding the baby with infant formulas artificially.artificial formulas do not carry adequate nutrients and there is 6 fold increase inthe risk of diarrhea and death in infants.in hiv positive mother ther is 14 % increase risk of transsmission to the child the hiv virus.but there are reports that giving the mother antiretroviral treatment in the last months of pregnancy and during feedin reduce the risk of transmission.other method considered is expressing the human milk and the feeding it to the baby after boiling it.it is better than the artificial formula but still not natural equivalent.

If the woman has it, she can transmit it to the baby via the breast milk, dont do it!

the HIV(AIDS) will transmit to baby through the milk,it is considered a body fluid.so will the meds that the mom takes for treatment, robin

the baby can get HIV.

she shouldn't feed the baby with her breast milk because she can pass it thru the milk!!!
