HIV is the name of the virus . AIDS is the disease or condition caused by the virus.

AIDS: acquired immunodeficiency syndrome.

You can be HIV positive and feel perfectly in shape and healthy. Then the virus multiply inside your body for over 6 years, more in certain cases. At that point, the probabilities are that it will transform to AIDS, and then you will feel sick, really sick.

Well treated, you can live up to natural death with HIV. However, once at the stage of being AIDS, there is nothing to do, damages and death will come in a few years.
