Do all people who have HIV get AIDS?

Is it possible to have HIV and never develop AIDS ? What are the chances?
A friend of mine has HIV and I am wondering if he will for sure get AIDS.

Yes, after a certain time all people infected with HIV start to develop AIDS itself. However, the time between the infection and the onset of AIDS varies amoung individuals. Some live a long time with out getting any AIDS symptoms.

The average lifespan between for infection and death for adults is 10 years and children under the age of five only 1-3 years.

There is no answer to how long that someone with HIV will continue to live. The number of yrs a infected person live depends on many factors such as the immune system itself, the persons diet, the number of viruses in the body, and on whether a person always treated other diseases fully and immediatley whenever they occured.

Dont focus on death. Help your friend cherish each moment they have left on earth. Be there support system and shower them with love and friendship.

"No day but today"

Best wishes

no. they dont. i worked in a home of hiv people, and i took care of them and there is a chance that it can turn in aids, but just a chance the meds they r on is keeping that from happening.

People who are infected with HIV have to take massive amounts of medications to increase or maintain the amount of white blood cells in their inmune system. I think if they stop taking the pills the chances of develop AIDS is much higher than taking the cocktels. It depends, some people don't develop AIDS for many years, but from my understanding, because the diseases affect the inmune system, they could die from a simple cold.

Just like everything else, the answer depends on who and what you believe.

I say no because I know people who have been "diagnosed" with HIV and are healthier than me. HOWEVER, because they have been "diagnosed" with HIV, if they ever get pneumonia (or any of the other diseases now classified under AIDS with the CDC), and they die while sick, their death will be classified as an AIDS death.

If I, on the otherhand, get the very same disease(s) and die, but HAVE NOT been "diagnosed" as HIV+, then I have died from whatever disease is listed on my death certificate.

You see how it works?
